Coffee
    #18851393 - 09/16/13 09:24 PM (10 years, 5 months ago)

"Use approximately 2 tablespoons of ground coffee for each 6 ounces of cold water"

I have been measuring out ounces of water in a measure cup. My question is, do the 'cups markers' on the coffee pot actually equate to anything? If so, I could just measure the water with that to how many cups of coffee I choose to brew, right?

A coffee cup is considered 5-6 oz.

If you make a whole pot throw an extra one in.

Also, screw the drip coffeemaker; you should really be using a french press.

yw. Yes, a french press is tits on a stick; even the best drip coffeemaker only pulls about 60% of the flavor from the grind.

However, don't waste your time if you're using Folgers or Maxwell House or some other shit coffee. That stuff is meant to be brewed in drip coffeemakers. Buy some decent beans and a grinder, grind them yourself, and enjoy some REAL coffee. No sugar or milk necessary.

that french thingie doesn't look very efficient to me

i like to keep it simple
take my coffee cup, fill it with water
put water in a small pot and put it on a stove
add coffee (i use 3 small spoons) and stir
heat until boiling
remove from stove (just to stop bubbling)
heat until boiling
repeat one more time (3 boils)
wait for it to settle
pour into cup and drink

kinda hobo turkish style (i don't use a cezve)

Are you trying to recommend a coffee brand over the other to look cool?!  Just playing from the hot sauce thread, now learn to measure your coffee :shitbird:

I've had a french press that I tried really hard to make my go-to coffee utensil. I never had very flavorful coffee out of it and eventually got to a point where I was putting so much coffee ground in that it was a waste.

And yes, I did have the water at a full boil before using.

Coffee is an excellent beverage, but I love tea too.  Has anyone ever tried the coffee that has been eaten by some animal and shit back out?  I'm serious here it's real and I can't think of the name, but it's considered to be the best in the world by some...

I know, heard it first from Joe Rogan and again somewhere else.  I'd try it I guess, but I can't remember the name or where it comes from.  I believe some bat eats the beans, shits it out and it's considered special from coffee experts.

I have had the civet cat coffee (Kopi Luwak). Stuff is crazy expensive and absolutely nothing special. I checked it off of the list of 'things to do' and will not re-explore. I used a french press to brew it.

So the number indicator on the coffee pot is for oz? I thought it was cups.

When in doubt, 10gr coffee to 5oz water is a good ratio. 1/2oz to 5oz is a potent brew.

No, its for cups of coffee.  A cup of coffee is 6 ozs because generally people add milk to it.

So what do you use now to brew?  If you say a drip machine then you were doing it wrong with the press.
