Can unopened Sake go bad?

We found an ancient bottle of sake in the basement. Really, really, old and dusty, in Japanese writing, but sealed and unopened.
Is it safe to drink?

Hmm alright, well maybe someone else can chime in, but I'm pretty positive alcohol, especially at that strength won't go bad, I mean people keep wine for years. It's no different than other alcohol, it's just made with rice.

it is "rice wine"
what is the container made of? lid too?
glass bottle and non-suspect lid would be ideal

Yup, its just like a vintage wine.
If its soju(sp??), the slightly stronger rice wine, same thing.

Alcohol can still go bad, especially low ABV spirits.
Give it a whiff before ingesting. If it smells bad, get rid of it.
Ive opened a sealed bottle of easily over 8 years old grand marnier and that shit was rank. Fuckin nasty, and thats 40% ABV

Does your basement stay cool or do it get warm?
Either way it is most likely okay to drink but it might not taste as good as it should, especially if it gets warm.
I hate sake though, it taste horrible IMO.

Sake technically isn't wine, it is a strong beer!

It's my least favorite alcohol, I'd rather drink a steel reserve or some Korski vodka.

I'd rather drink sake than wine.
I like soju the most though. So much more flavorful than vodka. But i'd still rather have a glass of tanq or bombay on ice And bourbon, rye, or scotch over that.
Hey you, hand me that bottle over there...

Yeah I forgot about wine, I don't like it either, even good top shelf wine is nasty. IMO it just taste like rotten grapes.
I don't particularly care for vodka either, although Ciroc is probably my favorite liquor and it's vodka but it tastes different/better.
I prefer whiskey.

Red wine tastes like ass and gives me the squirts, but white wine is pretty amazing just lower in alcohol content

Both sake and wine can go bad, even unopened, if stored improperly. This is plenty common with old wines that people find. Open it up, and it's completely worthless. Neither are of high enough ABV to prevent bacterial growth or refermentation if stored improperly. Elevated temperatures can also ruin an unopened bottle.
Just open it up and have a small taste.

I am not a fan of hot sake. But the unfiltered saki (Nigori) is great cold. It's sweeter.
Should give it a shot sometime when you are eating Japanese food.

Hot sake is all I've ever had, maybe I'll try that one day.
