damprid teabag in jar

I put a teabag filled with damprid in the bottom of a small plastic cup. I used scissors to cut the cup just above the teabag, about two inches from the bottom. I wrapped thecup with a coffee filter and taped it good. Now I dropped the finished little damprid cup In a quart mason jar and filled it with cracker dry store bought edible mushrooms. Does anyone know if the teabag is enough to keep it 100% cracker dry if its sealed? I checked a day later and they're still cracker but I was wondering if anyone has experience with this. Will the teabag fill with nasty damprid water? I doubt it because the cracker dry mushrooms filled most of the volume so I'm sure the teabag would be able to hold way more moisture than what is in the jar. Would the coffe filter prevent the damprid from doing its job? Its technically two layers, the coffee filter and the teabag.

I make desiccant pouches out of silica from the hobby store and do it yourself teabags.
I use the silica marketed for flower preservation. It has some blue pellets that turn pink when it can't absorb any more moisture.
So far, in my experience, one teabag full is plenty for a quart jar of cracker dry mushrooms. If I do see the bag start to change color, it's as easy as replacing the bag. I have not had to replace any yet.
I hope I at least kinda answered your question

You did as I believe damprid is more powerful. I may even switch to silica like you so I don't have to worry about the nasty taste lol, but the way I made this with the cup no taste gets on the mushrooms

I use damp-rid, and it works very well. Though this teabag idea sounds wonderful.

I just sprinkle the desiccant directly on top. Just raw dog that bitch.

I came into this thread expecting more discussion about me.... Not a bad idea if you're using damp-rid though.

Only use in tea bag when they're cracker dry. Trying to do this with wet mushrooms will fail just in case somebody makes a mistake.

I would not go with damprid for storage. Although it dries better than silica, it is in fact toxic. We spend so much time avoiding bacterial contams the last thing you want is a chemical contamination.
Also, damprid turns into water. Your mushrooms will just reabsorb the water in theory. However, if they are already cracker dry then I don't see the damprid absorbing enough moisture to turn into water.
Honestly, it's just an overkill for storage. Just put a little bit of silica in a tea bag and put that in an air tight container with your mushrooms. Silica is cheap (sold as kitty liter), it can be reactivated, and it's non-toxic.

Not that you even need it but damprid would work. It's not toxic its Calcium Chloride CaCl2. You can look up a MSDS for damprid(or just CaCl2) and though it will sound scary due to the way they have to word those documents, if you really read it the most damage it will cause is upset stomach. CaCl2 you can eat it like salt but it tastes horrible to me. It can be used to lower your sodium intake while giving a salty flavor and is used in canning/pickling.
Silica(sand SiO2) rather, however harmless is something I would much rather not eat.

Yea I've had no problems at all. The damprid teabags look exactly the same after about a week. The mushrooms seem to be even dryer than when they went in, super duper dry. Since the damprid bag is taped to the bottom of the cup it never touches the coffee filter so there's no taste on the mushrooms at all. I even licked the coffee filter after taking it off. Nothing on it no salty taste at all, so its a fine way of doing it. Its non toxic incase your worried but if the tea bag is taped down none will touch anything
