Mushrooms in medicine (esp. for cluster headaches)...

Hi everyone! Nice to be here, I just registered and I'm looking to get a better understanding of psilocybin and magic mushrooms in general.
I suffer from something called 'cluster headaches' and 'SUNCT', so I'm particularly interested in medical discussions about cures and treatments. Both are quite rare brain disorders so the available research has been very limited and there's almost no opportunity within cluster headache communities to raise a topic like this because of the potential misinterpretation.
I was recently reading a medical journal which showed a particular study using psilocybin mushrooms prolonged the remission periods between cluster attacks for a large number of people (vs. placebo), this was really fascinating for me as my clusters are chronic and so my remission is quite short. I'm also still quite young so it gives me a bit of hope that I may not need to chew on anticonvulsants for the rest of my life! XD
Looking forward to making some new friends some great discussions.
A little about me: I'm a part-time psychology student in the London area and I work as a web developer for my own company.

Welcome to the Shroomery! I hope it is what you are looking for...and more!
And please, do keep us informed about the effect of shrooms on your cluster headaches. Users of psilocybin for medical purposes are really, really scarce on here, so your experience can make a difference!

Actually, the most reliable data of controlled trials of psilocybin suggest that psilocybin actually causes the delayed onset of headache. There is only anecdotal evidence of treating cluster headaches with psilocybin.

I know two people who use mushrooms for cluster headaches. They say it works better than any other medication they have tried. They usually dose once a month, but one guy grinds his into capsules. They other guy makes tea and freezes in an ice cube tray.
They key is to dose before the onset of headaches, or when you feel that one will come on.

Hi everyone, thanks for the welcome!
Yes I think either way, more research should be done in this area. It's extremely painful and additionally frustrating for people to suffer and be told there is no cure. Certainly it's worth trying at the very least to see if it does anything.
I'm definitely curious to find out more from those friends of JohnnieYen - are they around on this forum too? It would be nice to understand a bit more about the experience and particularly if it's used as a long term treatment.

No, my friends are not on this forum. They do rely on me to get their medicine though so I can relay information.
Both treated their condition by laying down in the dark, with no sound. headache would last from 2-4 hours usually. Both described the pain as a burning spike behind their eyes.
Apparently it is recommended to treat the headache before the "cycle happens"
One of my friends only got headaches a few months out of the year. I think is was spring/summer.
The other recently got them every day for a year. he was extremely depressed and contemplated suicide a few times.
Both found relief with psilocybin mushrooms (cubensis). They both had to experiment with dosages to find the sweet spot. I think the consensus was between 3.5-5g dry.
making the tea seemed really helpful because it started working within 5 minutes. They key is to take the medicine when you know the headache is coming. Once in full clusterfuck, it's hard to get back to normal. Dose may help shorten the duration, but did not kill it.
The guy who got headaches everyday got the most out of it. If he dosed at the right time, he was able to not get any more headaches for 3-4 weeks. For him this was amazing.
But, this will not make them stop for good. I heard it is a condition for life
sorry about your condition, hope this helps

Thank you firstly to anunnakian, that was a very inspirational and hopeful video.
And thanks also to JohnnieYen, that's super information. My cycles are about 3-4 days of cluster headaches with SUNCT then up to a week without. This has been the steady pattern for the good part of a year. I use anticonvulsants as a preventative measure (although these are only really effective in large/dangerous doses) and oxygen with subcutaneous sumatriptan as an abortive measure.
Mushrooms will be a new experience for me altogether but certainly at the top of my list of things to try.
