potency loss?
I'm not sure. I only did a few like this and I had plenty at the time so I just trashed them because they were so gross looking. I doubt there was potency loss or anything wrong with them though

Yeah by hand under the faucet. It was from a big coir/verm substrate brick out of a mono that I had threw out in the woods. Some mushrooms grew out from underneath it about a week after I threw it out there. They were covered in sub, leaves, and dirt. So I decided to give them a bath

I did this right when I started PF tek since the mushrooms always had vermiculite on them.
Not sure why people are so obsessed about thinking color = potency, but people were obsessed with them.
Someone mentioned harvesting earlier... Seriously nothing is more horrible than a tub of bad genetics or aborts that is filled with 1000 baby mushrooms.

I have....fruits that were grown outside in dirt.....literally dirt.
Had to rinse them off under a faucet....no bruising....no nastiness....just wanted to rinse off any dirt/bugs.
They worked just fine....

The only problem is that it's time to move to a more difficult species.

It's best to never wash mushrooms. Especially if they're outdoor grown, the water from washing will usually cause all sorts of mold and bacteria to start growing.
Instead, dry the mushrooms as soon as possible with all the crap still on them, and then once they're dry, the verm, sticks, dirt, etc., comes off easily with a brush. In addition, the live bacteria if present dies off when the mushrooms dry. RR

Jars would be a good start. My question is more about the vast quantity of the fruits. Would an oxygen absorber and a pack of desiccant be worth buying for each jar? I'm assuming Frank would need to store the dry mushrooms for more than just a few months.

Well...I would cut open a trash bag or lay out some of that liner material you have and spread them out on it on the floor, then put like two or three fans blowing over the top....until the dehydrators are done...
And as far as the spores on your hands...trying swirling your hands around in hydrated grains.

Hey Frank, IME drying bulk fruit with ease requires 3 easily attainable items; A box fan, mesh screen and bread loaf racks easily commandeered from your local grocer or any place that stocks bread. The great thing is you can stack the racks however high you need. You cut the mesh screen to fit the racks so your mush stays contained within the rack, then voila the mother of all drying racks, hope this helps you and others!
