It should work fine as long as the filter is in decent shape.

I saw this same one linked to in another post somewhere recently, and someone responded that it was probably almost dead. It does seem too good to be true, although there's a sticker on it that says it was tested in 2012. I dunno. I'm wary about the fact that it's so cheap.

How about this guy? Admittedly, flow hoods are a bit confusing to me. This seems like the idea though, and much less space consuming and less expensive. Am I correct to think this would work, with or without modification?

That looks legit to me. I really like that compact design too. Nice find!

I would buy that if I were you, Im even considering it. It would cost way more to build one.

The only thing I would be hesitant about is whether or not it will create laminar flow. From reading the description it sounds to me that it may just be an air scrubber...so your room would definitely be cleaner, but i don't think you could use it as a flow hood. I built mine with a 99.99% filtration HEPA that is 24"x18"x6" (the shallow depth gives it more resistance to allow the plenum to create even laminar flow, which it seems that unit has a HEPA with 6" depth) and the fan I used to achieve laminar flow is a Dayton 1TDU2, which seems much bigger than the fan in this unit...hard to tell though. I would call and try and get some more specs for the fan and filter, and maybe RR will see this thread and give you some guidance. He helped me with mine when I had questions and it went together with no problems.
Good luck with it, CitizenErased
