So I was gone for 2 days...

Ok so I went away this weekend to go see some family and at the time of leaving my mushrooms were fruiting but not quite ready to be picked and I obviously cant bring them with me so I figured in 2 days they'd be perfect for picking. Once again i totally underestimated the speed of fruiting and came home to this.

All I could say is "holy shit" when I saw them. I know all the black stuff is spores and not a big deal but my questions is
1) Can i still get spore prints off these or does it look like all the spores are off them? (I Don't rlly know much about the spores part of all this yet)
2) Are these still trip worthy? From what I read and studied there most potent when the cap is just tearing from the stem..right? But these are wayyyy far from the stem and fully grown out and that huge one i swear feels like a lb..also the stems feel real fuzzy in certain spots.

Pick em, eat them, Have a blast. The potency difference is so small, that I don't think you will even notice. I know the concept idea is that once the veil breaks they just take on water weight, but a shroom is a shroom. The will be awesome, good looking out btw.

Mature loses a little potency, the worst is going to be consistency and taste. Might cause a bit more nausea because it's past its prime and primary function.
You will be able to glean a few light prints from them, or try to scrape some of the black off and keep it in some aluminum foil. Still going to be a fun time.
Fuzzy stems are a lack of FAE.
You're golden, buddy.

If spores contain no psylocybin then how does a fruit lose any by dropping spores? And if it only adds waterweight after dropping its spores and we then dry all the water out of them - won't the end result be the exact same?

It's not about the spores, it's about the function of the fruitbody. The whole reason the fruitbody exists is to drop spores, once it does that, it starts rotting. Ever walk outside a couple days after it rains and see black mush on the grass? The fruitbody fulfilled its purpose and begins decomposing, breaking itself down, and the first to go are the alkaloids because as a defense mechanism they're no longer necessary.
Also, water affects the size of the pores in the fruitbody, leading to more oxygen exposure, psilocin (the metabolized version of psilocybin that is responsible for activating your serotonin receptors in the brain) is vulnerable to oxygen; the psilocybin being broken down in the rotting process is being turned into psilocin which is being broken down into carbon, nitrogen and hydrogen.
All tryptamine chains are vulnerable to oxygen.

Yes, eat the whole shroom. The shroom as a whole is as potent as the shroom is, not what part of the shroom is most potent. You may have to deal with a little bitter taste and smell from the spores but that's no big deal. Also, the shroom has grown beyond maturity and will have the added weight from the time beyond the shroom had reached maturity. You will have to keep that in mind and compensate in your doses. The only way to find out if you can get prints is to try and get prints. Shrooms hold a bunch of spores. No harm no foul if no more drop. Major win if more do.

Fair enough. That last part there particularly is interesting - and makes a lot of sense. Any idea of when exactly the process begins? I mean in terms of during or after the spores drop.. Not that I am particularly worried about losing potency; just curious.

Depends, I'd say when the shrooms look like OP's they've probably fufilled their biological purpose. (;

Oh sorry, as far as dunking goes, you can really do it until nothing happens and chuck the cakes. I do 3 dunks, cut the cakes up and boil them into tea (after straining really well, nobody likes verm mouth).

How well does that cake tea work for you and how many cakes to a glass?

It's okay, it's about 2 cakes per glass. I'd say I had a nice level 3 trip from that.
