question about fruiting a brf cake IN the jar
    #18846004 - 09/15/13 07:43 PM (10 years, 4 months ago)

hello there,

I had a little left over when preparing my first ever batch and the only thing I had available was this

VVVV

fast forward 3.5+ weeks later and jar is almost 100% colonized but have no idea how to fruit it, since I cant birth it unless cracking the jar

I was planning to place it in the SGFC and fruit it in the jar, but I have searched all over and cant find an answer

do I scrap the verm off?

dunk or not dunk, if so how to dunk?

can I get more than one flush out of it?

I really don't know how to go about it, the perfect thing would be fruit bodies growing on the top surface :um:

any suggestions?

You gotta research stuff before you do anything. You used one of the worst possible jars to do cakes.

I would try to break the jar from the bottom ever so slightly to where the jar just splits in two, if you can. Just try to get the least amount of glass shards

Nah man just fruit it in the jar. Pour of the dry verm layer and add some new verm on top. About a quarter inch. Then moisten it and put it in your sgfc. It will grow

hmmm I did research the stuff, my other 12 jars were kerr regular wide mouth half pints. I just had a little left over and rather than throw it away I decided to do one more "ugly duck" jar

I know it can be done, this guy did it, in pint jars but still managed to fruit them inside the vessel

Rinse the verm filter off under a faucet, and then put a verm/peat casing layer on top.  Place in terrarium.
