Chaga/Birch Polypore/Reishi Tea
    #18845420 - 09/15/13 05:24 PM (10 years, 4 months ago)

I can't seem to find any consistent info on how to prepare these for tea. I really don't know if i should be boiling or steeping. Or how long i should be doing either one for. Any info would be great.

Thats the thing with medicinal mushrooms, no one knows how to prepare them, how much to take, or even if they work at all.  A sign of snake oil perhaps...

However in general, you should break them up as finely as possible.  Don't fry your blender though.

A wood chipper might be good, or a machete, or a hatchet, or a saw, or you could just leave them as is.

Generally you boil them a long time.

Sometimes people do an alchol extraction to get the non-polar part also.  Sometimes this fraction is mixed with the boiled part, keeping the alcohol percentage above 20 percent so it does not get moldy.

The correct extraction method depends on which chemical you are trying to extract...
