Yea, but who wants to work on a collection that consists of a few gills, cap fragments & a piece of the stem surface when there are dozens of much better collections to also scope?

Alan Rockefeller said: Yes, the actives are out in the bay area - both P. cyanescens and P. allenii, and probably P. ovoideocystidiata too. Not a lot of them, with current conditions it will take approx. 1000 hours of looking to find each new spot.
When the season is good, it will take about 3 hours of looking in the correct habitat for each new spot.

Hoo wee! I'm flaunting the weather rule, possibly.
Anyway, what I'm wondering is, has it been too long, too dry (note: It was unusually dry this year) to expect a good flush? Or could we have pent up heat shock style flushes? (Heat shock: http://www.shroomery.org/11403/Heat-shock)
Legitimate not fully weather related question. I don't know how the active species here tend to react to conditions like this.

It's a little too late in the year for good flushes of bay area actives. There might be a handful here and there, I'd start checking around this Thursday.
Psilocybe allenii starts in October and goes until mid January. Psilocybe cyanescens starts in October and goes until April, but with very reduced numbers after January. Psilocybe ovoideocystidiata comes out in the bay area in the spring, but is not common.

There has been a little bit of rain so I have decided to lead a mushroom hunt this Sunday Feb 9 in Berkeley.
We are meeting at noon at the parking lot
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=Lake+Anza+Trail,+Berkeley,+CA&hl=en&ll=37.896477,-122.251858&spn=0.001931,0.00327&sll=37.758475,-122.235328&sspn=0.350145,0.837021&oq=lake+anza,+berk&t=h&hnear=Lake+Anza+Trail,+Berkeley,+Contra+Costa+County,+California+94708&z=19
There might be some mushrooms but definitely no actives. We will be out in the woods where they don't grow. It is not legal to pick mushrooms in the park so this will be a photography only foray. We are going to do a lot more mushroom hunting than mushroom finding, and that's ok...
Also I am speaking on Mushrooms of Mexico on Feb 19 at 7pm in Santa Cruz

it's looking really wet.... is it too late to keep looking? I was going to look around tomorrow around the east bay. I found a few different things this season but I don't think any of them were legit. (I'll post photos later). I didn't do any picking this season but I did get to do some tripping. (friend of mine hooked me up,) I was going to ask for ID earlier but I had guaranteed ones from my buddy so I left the other maybes alone.

They still seem to be out in some spots, although I haven't seen any since jan. Wish these rains had come two months ago. I'm going to check my patches once It stops raining continuously.

I know I'm not following the proper procedure for identification request but it'd be cool to just get a quick yes/no/maybe for psychoactive possibilities. I no longer have anything that is pictured but was thinking about rechecking those areas this week.
#1. I liked how the shrooms looked in the first pic so I just snapped a quick pic. I didn't think they were active but maybe an indicator that actives might be near by? Habitat was like borderline between pine needles, tall grass, and woodchips.
#2/3. Found really close to the 1st picture. Thought it was an active because the gills looked real dark. Was skeptical though because of the color of the cap. Never got to take a spore print was on my way to class.
Again, I'm sorry for not following rules. Completely understand if no one can tell me a thing just by these pretty weak pictures.

It's an Agaricus species, you should make an IQ request next time and not post requests in the actives thread.

I know bro thanks... Sorry I was trying to keep it together with my other message.. See if I was on the right or wrong track hunting in the East Bay. I appreciate your reply. Will submit a proper request next time.

Well I took a 3 hour walk in the park today. 1 1 gram cyan and 1 tiny blewit for my first hunt this year. Things were pretty wet and I didn't see much growing although it seemed as if the clovers and whatnot finally started growing as the ground was dead besides younger looking plants.... Also got some wild deadly pin porn. Unfortunately loading from my phone is difficult

Hey guys, I'm new here & pretty new to mushrooms all together but I've always been interested in different types of mushrooms/truffles (usually for cooking...)....Anyways, I live next to Berkeley and I was walking my dog this evening and stumbled upon these growing at the base of a tree...Sorry for the crappy pictures, I can take some better ones tomorrow during the day.
Could someone identify these for me? Any and all input would be greatly appreciated!
Kind regards & happy hunting!

Nobody can 100% ID from just those pictures, check this out for a sample ID request:
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/5731447
Also, start a new thread for your request instead of posting it here, this thread is meant for confirmed active finds. Many more people will see it if you do that, so you're more likely to get an answer.
EDIT: I see now you did that, sorry.

How is it looking up in the city and surrounding areas? I'm talking about edibles not just psychoactive fungi. At this point I probably wont find actives here anyway. I went on a 3 hour hike and only found tiny oysters and some Mycena. I'm hoping things will pick up by the weekend if they even do at all.

In ggp only pins scattered here and there. Within 3 hours one 1 gram active and 1 mini blewit and barely 5 patches of pins and maybe 2 or 3 pins. I don't know many edibles although again there was not much variety. Maybe 1 or 2 candy caps although I can't identify those confidently.
I am curious about an active I found last year. It was definitely not a cyan or close relative as just the blue reaction in the stem was noticeably different turning completely blue in seconds maybe due to the stem being thin and straw like. It was much taller about 4 inch stem maybe with a cap like an umbrella with the gills going from the stem to the cap. Can anyone guess or name some other possible actives? I found it by itself and had to drop spores to confirm as only the blue reaction and somewhat the color matched a cyan although the shape in all aspects was completely different. This was in ggp around the 35-40 Ave area a little more North side. I wish I had a picture although had no camera access our really comp access at the time.

I got a few pins coming up in my cyan box, then again its not hunted. Hopefully that will turn from a few into a couple dozen before the flush is over...

It's been a tough season for actives, this forum had been virtually dead. Maybe this will zap some life back into it. My first find of the season...

I'm pretty sure the first two are alleni but I didn't think they fruit this late in the season. Stems bruised black, gills look right unattached to the stem, but I'm still a little iffy about them. Probably because I haven't been identifying much of anything this season. Taking a spore print now.

The first two that you think might be allenii are questionable. It would help to see pics of the gills and stem. From what I remember when the caps are moist there more translucent straight then the ones in your pic. You said the stems turned black? Maybe Galerina.
Nice freakin cyans tho bro way to bring the thread alive!
