Hey ! Well i would look at it from a more scientific point of view. Nothing can happen without a cause so everything must happen for a reason. Now the question would only be - is it because of determinism or the random behavior of "Stuff" on the very small scale.

Do you seriously think this? Have you ever reconstructed your point of view without any assumptions?
I'm willing to bet if you laid everything on the table that you know and work towards a new perspective, it would not include anything concerning a deity. Even if you've seen a deity what makes you think that experience was real, and if it is real - subjective?

We are the imagination of ourselves. This is some kind of dream. If you imagine your true self you will appear as God.
Listen to the lyrics of this song since we're posting songs at random here.
This is all from my experience.

Not to deflate the subjective nature of wonderment and joy but divinity is a word that requires an anti point. If there is divinity there must be the non-divine, but it seems that everything is 'of God'. Therefore everything is divine and using that word to characterize some aspect of reality doesn't mean anything. It's the same as saying 'it is as it is'.
Anyway, there are two notions about 'how it works'. The first notion can easily be painted in the material world. A comet is headed towards a star system which holds 4 planets. It's on a collision course with planet #3. It would be unfair if the comet arbitrarily veered for no reason and hit planet #2 or 1 instead. Such is the robust nature of the entanglement that the fundamental randomness of quantum mechanics cannot change the only possible outcome. We also can guess based upon our knowledge of physics that without some force seen or unseen there is no reason why the comet would veer. The second notion is that humans somehow disobey these basic principals. This would account for both 'doing wrong' and 'correcting wrong', two things which wouldn't occur in non-life forms. However there is a possibility.
Like comets and planets humans are highly entangled forms of energy. Generally speaking the form isn't affected by fundamental randomness, but the brains of an animal allow for minute changes to cause a cascade of activity. It could be that animals, and humans especially are affected by quantum activity. It could also be that background radiation affects the brain in similar ways by creating a randomly changing frequency of activity which would generally be discarded by the brain. In either case there is no surety that the brains error filtering capability is 100%. Therefore it may be possible that brained activity and it's physical effects are to some degree a fractal with novel components which can not be predicted.
And this is a totally separate issue than that of karma which is complex enough, though it's possible that the effects of quantum mechanics aren't random, just incalculable and tied to space time in a way we don't understand. So perhaps in a way everything is fair but when it comes to humans, fairness generally carries more reliable connotations.
If everything is fair using that word to characterize some aspect of reality doesn't mean anything. There must be unfairness and fairness together. "Life's not fair" is an inherently problematic phrase, but so too is "Life is fair". It is as it is.
