Yeah, I just don't know where to start... I'm amazed that you haven't found the information around the forum by pure chance. But yeah... eh...

But seriously don't buy the mushroom cultivator. I have not read it but everyone says it is full of very outdated info. If you want to be self sufficient then make spore prints and look into agar, grain, and growing with bulk substrates

You can't say that till you read it. Yeah, some stuff is outdated but there's plenty of hard info in there on fungi in general that doesn't change.
If nothing else, it's worth it for the contaminant key.

The mushroom cultivator is a fine read but full of monokryatic nuclei talk. For a relative newbie, pick and choose what you absorb or it will be quite overwhelming.

There is "Psilocybin Mushroom Handbook" by "L.G. Nicholas" and "Kerry Ogame" from '06 which presents itself as an attempt to update the original "Psilocybin: Magic Mushroom Grower's Guide".. I have only read through the prologue and browsed it briefly myself, so I can't vouch for the quality.

And I have a question as to taking spore prints, lets say for argument sake I got it 100% contam free, but are the spores from all mushrooms viable, because they only had artificial and filtered light, I have a green thumb not a fungi foot. I know indoor grown plants arnt nearly as nice as outdoors so would tht affect the spore print, how hard is getting a spore print viable and contam free

Getting a 100% sterile spore print outside of a lab environment is pretty difficult. That is what is so great about agar. You can grow your spores out in a petri and if there are any contams you can simply transfer away from them

If you are asking "will my spores be bad because the fruits never got natural light" then no. Light isn't remotely a big an issue with mushrooms as with plants...
As for how hard it is to get it viable and clean? I'd say it's easily doable if you follow the recommended procedures... I guess there is never a 100% guarantee of success, even in a lab environment, but give it a go man - it's not that hard to get right.

Afaik you will need one before doing agar work. Apart from that I don't think agar seems that daunting, so if you can grab one you should probably give it a go.
As for making your own agar; unless you really can't find them I would go for premade packets. It's cheap as hell anyway..
