Can I move agar to grain earlier than later?

Do I have to wait for it to grow out or is it ok for me to transfer a wedge now. It's about 50 percent. What's the benefit to letting it grow it if I'm not isolating but only planning on moving to agar? Ill get some pics soon

Sure you can use it. Just try to take as little bare agar as possible for your wedge.

I meant moving to grain. What do you mean by as little bare agar as possible?

I know you meant move it to grain.
Cut a circle around the mycelium then slice your wedges (if you are making wedges).
Do not use the "bare" agar that is uncolonized when moving wedges to grains.

Think he means cut away only the mycelium when transferring I.e cut away the bare agar??
Am I right on this? Bare agar in your grains can cause contams? ?

It won't cause contams if you are using good sterile procedure...or rather, it won't cause contams if you don't have anything land on it while you're moving the wedge to the jar. But that applies to the whole wedge.
The bare agar serves zero purpose for inoculating grains. It does however provide a bigger "landing pad" for contams that may be in the air when you inoculate.
Does this make sense?

Agar is sticky. Uncolonized agar will easily pull things from the air. Way easier than it'll just fall into your open jar.
Yes, you can use your agar now. You're never supposed to let it run all the way to the edge anyway.
