Restoring files from disc
    #18843925 - 09/15/13 09:58 AM (10 years, 4 months ago)

I accidentally deleted a Winsta.dll months ago and i need to get it back somehow. I have the OS Vista home, with the upgrade disc for Win7 premium, making my OS Win7

Question is to get this file back should i try loading form the Vista copy or the (W7 add on not a full copy just the upgrade)?

Thanks for the helpp.

OK in that case, put back the w7 version and run windows update afterwards.

unfortunately i can't, in the past when i run windows update my pc crashes over and over and i have to fight to get it back up, multiple times over the years with multiple efforts including re installing the OS has taught me to stop updating my windows updates and my pc runs just fine. But i update everything else involved. One time out of curiosity i updated windows just to see if one of the 100+ updates would fix the errors i been having, it did not. so i system restored and thats that.

This weekend if i cant restore from disk i just might re install OS or just live with it, all it does is at start up is 2 boxes pop up saying windows cant run/open the missing dll files, i click ok and never hear from it again until next start up.

If you are currently running Windows Vista as your operating system, I don't think it would make sense to try and restore from a Windows 7 CD.

For whatever operating system you are running, I would suggest booting from the CD to that particular OS, and trying to repair any missing files.

If you have a Vista edition that supports upgrading to Windows 7, I would do that after fixing your operating system by replacing the winsta.dll file.
