Nah I'm in a shitty ass situation cause in Israel the army is mandatory and I got stuck in a unit I hate that doesn't really do anything most of the time. Its a waste of 3 years and I want to switch units but its ridiculously hard and I've tried speaking to as many people as I can with no help. I technically volunteered to do the army and am now getting fucked and regret the decision if nothing changes.
I have one of the highest preliminary test grades so have no clue why they stuck me into that shit hole. Well I sorta do but still. I don't wanna waste 3 years of my life and if I leave the country at this point back to the USA that means I can't come back to Israel for at least 7 years, if not more, without getting arrested and that also means many reprecutions as well.
They don't want to let me switch units and I'm just feeling more and more shitty every day and its just a terrible situation.

Israel began a ground invasion of the Gaza Strip on 3 January 2009. Israel rebuffed many cease-fire calls and both sides declared unilateral cease-fires. A total of 1,100-1,400 Palestinians and 13 Israelis were killed in the 22-day war. After 22 days of fighting, Israel declared a ceasefire. Hamas vowed to continue the battle if Israeli forces did not leave the Strip. The conflict damaged or destroyed tens of thousands of homes, 15 of Gaza’s 27 hospitals and 43 of its 110 primary health care facilities, 800 water wells, 186 greenhouses, and nearly all of its 10,000 family farms; leaving 50,000 homeless, 400,000-500,000 without running water, one million without electricity, and resulting in acute food shortages.

The U.S. initially blocked the 30 December 2008 ceasefire proposal at the U.N. Security Council. [2] [3] [4] On 31 December, the U.S. sought to hire a German merchant ship to deliver more ammunition to a U.S. supply base in Israel. Arms and munitions from such bases can be handed over to Israeli use in case of an emergency.[5] Israel's offensive in the Gaza Strip was allegedly made possible by weapons supplied by the U.S.:
"Israel's intervention in the Gaza Strip has been fueled largely by US supplied weapons paid for with US tax dollars," says a background briefing released Thursday by the Arms and Security Initiative of the New York-based New America Foundation.[6]

Each cog is just as important as any other in the murder machine.
It doesn't matter what unit you're in. You're still wasting three years of your life, as well as the entire lives of many innocent people, children and stuff.

There is only one military and its holding the entire world hostage. Squabbles over jurisdiction are meaningless. It's the same effect. Innocent people die so that rich, "People." can get richer.

No guys, this is what I was afraid of. I didn't start this thread to get into a political discussion. You guys honestly don't know anything just what the news tells you which is setimed far from the truth. I wouldn't know much more but I have the experience of living here.
Also the only reason I joined the army is cause my family and friends are here and this is the only way I can stay.
Also because there are so many people in Israel who do not want to draft or can't be combat soldier for various reasons are are also so many "jobs" in the army not related to war at in any way what so ever. This is why I was asking for specifically Israelis for advice cause I am almost 100% sure the IDF is unlike any other army in the world.
Doing nothing means guarding 10 hours a day for 2y 4m with exceptions.
Again this isn't a topic for political discussion please.

I am Israeli born but lived in america basically my whole life. I am thinking of doing that but as I mentioned earlier its not a simple decision.
That means leaving behind my friends and family. I still have family back where I lived but its cousins and aunts. My dad is still I'm the US while my mom is here (they are not divorced), my brothers and sisters are in Israel too. Defecting to the US would mean what I mentioned in the op...

What possessed you to volunteer? Was it a dare? Lose a bet? Were you drunk at the time?
