Mono ready for fruiting after 4 days! Update..slugs are back...this is what they left me *

I've been growing for a long time now, but I've never had a mono colonize so quickly... I had clean spawn, properly pasteurized bulk sub...everything looks and smells proper....did I just get lucky or this fast colonization a sign of something wrong?

I would birth it...
Looks good, looks like you might celebrate shroom birth a lot sooner ;-)
My straw tubs are still not colonized after 10 days now this time :-( but didn't use a lot of spawn, hopefully just a few mo erdays, they're almost colonized
hopefully they iwll make it without contam
last time they colonized in 5-7 days, but didn't mix too well this time
one of the tubs did break the tape, so it got air, thats probably the problem, hopefully it will make it... was a lot of work pasteurizing all that straw

I took measures to slow it down... I took a syringe and directly dropped a few TINY drops of 91% isopropyl alcohol onto the invading culture. I did this with H2O2 once for cobweb and it worked well to halt the spread...I will post results....

I have dug out the infection before with an alcohol wiped spoon. An inch around the infection, and an inch deep.
slowly lift and discard the infected sub.
This will not destroy it but it can give you a few more days time to finish off your flush.

Whenever I've tried to dig out/cut off a contaminated section it just ends up spreading faster IME. If I need I finish out a flush I have good results just taking a solo cup and wedging it into the substrate to keep the contam quarantined for a few days. Obviously it still spreads anyway but this has worked very well for me

I had a bad feeling about this tub. It colonized pretty quickly and was pinning in what seemed like record time from what I've seen. Turns out it was just trying to beat the trich/green colored sporulating bacteria.
You can see in the first picture, the mushroom heads look a little darker than they should IMO, indicating abortion. And in the second picture you can see the trich pretty clearly. Then you posted the next day (today) saying you identified the trich. If you pay a little closer attention to your tub you might have been able to identify the problem and/or have a solution earlier. Not that you can really save a tub with trich.

The attempt to scoop out the substrate and remove it from the tub is a waste of time and likely you're just infecting your grow area with more spores than you could ever count. I've made the mistake first hand and won't do it again. The solo cup idea sounds kinda cool, but I'm not sure it would work. Seriously, if the infection has already already shown green then it's too late. IME best practice is once the tub is infected, just quarantine it and let it run the course. If it's half way through a flush just let the last remaining mushrooms mature and then do whatever you do with your spent substrates.
I'll have to try the solo cup idea next time I get some sort of infection.. sounds ingenuitive. All you're doing is buying time anyways, right?

I had trich appear on my first flush once, I contained it ALL and I even had another flush with no more signs of trich. I tossed after second flush though due to a friend letting to many spore all over the place. I took fine sea salt and slowly dumped it on the small vicinity I could see the trich(plus some extra around it), than I slowly misted the hell out of the spot to crust it over. It was a shot in the dark for me, but it worked so it may work for you too. My signature picture is of the trich tub, it just stopped spreading and I could continue with no worry.

I have had a drip of iso save me from the trich once. Every other time I did it it only bought me a bit of time. If you see it again, try salt. All you can do is buy time. Trich goes from bad to terrible nearly instantly.
Good luck!

Ok...So dripping straight alcohol directly onto the invading culture seems to have halted it's spread... The black spot is the trich culture...you can see a ring of bruising around the trich where the alcohol touched the mycelium. As of right now, I would call my attempt at killing the trich a success so far. Naturally it will come back..but for now, still enjoying my first flush...here are some pics...

Still not the greatest pin set... I think I'm done with Mazzies after my current grows are done. Too many mutants, the fruits have been too small and poor pinsets...all of this is due to genetics i'm sure. I've seen some AMAZING mazatapec grows...just not mine, lol.

Ok..so sorry for not taking any pics, but I was pissed,lol...hatin' this new house right now, but anyway, I cleared it got like like a half oz then buried it outside. I dumped about half a gallon of water where I put it and let it be..today it's hot and sunny...so I'm looking forward to one more outdoor recovery before the winter I think.

Depending on where you live you could definitely get more outdoor flushes this year. It's still in the 80-90s where I'm at so I have no worries there.
Make sure you continuously water your outdoor bed, especially if it's hot and sunny; your bed will dry up quicker than you expect!

I live in a place where it's cold at night and about 60-70 during the day right now.

Yeah me too. I have been dumping my monotubs out in the woods after the second flush all summer and getting huge 3rd flushes but this last one i dumped didn't do so great. I figured it was because it was getting down in the 50s at night and barely 70 during the day. I sure am going to miss outdoor growing this winter! Next summer I am doing a huge ass outdoor bed like madchef did this summer

... I'm going to knock up a master grain with P Allenii soon. I'll colonize wood chips in an outdoor bed all summer then expose for fruiting when fall hits....

Welp...my genetics don't seem to mind the cold nights at all...in fact from what I can tell...the only thing different is the slugs aren't coming out for dinner....

So I noticed the mushrooms popping up ourside where being devoured by leopard slugs again..I went out this morning and saw about 7 huge pins cropped down lvl with the top soil...I decided to lift the entire block of sub out of the ground and harvest what I could...lots of sub-terranian mushrooms grew along the under surface of the block...this is possibly the deepest bruising I've ever seen...I'm talking JET black.
