Doubting Thomas

24 But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.
25 The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the LORD. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.
26 And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you.
27 Then saith He to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.
28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My LORD and my God.
29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen Me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed
So let me get this straight. If an imposter had approached Thomas pretending to be Jesus, Thomas still should have believed because skepticism is bad and gullibility is good; therefore whatever fantastical story is laid before you, just swallow it whole without investigation.
Amen.

I've never quite understood that... As the spiritual experience is not only the groundwork of religion, it is a filter which we can use to make assessments about our selves and our community. The same could be said in contrary, that experience of the spiritual without a religious discipline will inevitably lead to more ignorance and confusion and an inability to discipline one's ego ethically. E.G. Many of the members of this community who have had the experiences but clearly lack the discipline taught through disciplines which would lead their attention toward an awareness that would not result in: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/18143327/fpart/1/vc/1

Kind of like you, and microwave popcorn? Swallowing it whole? I know it sounds corny. Oh and don't try to butter me up either with your hormones and antibiotics.

That's the basis of all religions and sects of mysticism. Even where experience is in some way offered, there is a heavy filter of assumptions put forth concerning the interpretation of said experiences. Guaranteeing a self-fulfilled prophesy for any who would look
Buddhism as a popular example requires no less assumptions than christianity
