Congrats on your first chants!

:sunspots:

Thanks dude!  My friend and I were looking for Chants on a mountain trail toward the bottom and then a lady asked what we were doing.  We told her and she said she saw others picking mushrooms on about the top 3rd of the mountain (SMALL mountain).  By the time we worked upward, we had to leave to get my friend back to work.  I'm thinking I'll get up super-early and go again tomorrow myself and to higher.  I love sweating my balls off in nature!  It's the best kind of exercise.

I'm still confused.  I've now got my eyes trained for Chants after finding a few but all the ones I found weren't in any consistent habitat that it seems.  I wish a habitat were more identifiable so I could really conserve time by narrowing in on prime potential areas.

Cheesy but my friend insisted I get a photo with the first Chanterelles I ever found

Went down this horse trail I used to walk a few years back.
Turns out the chanterelles are still growing well in the ol' stomping grounds.

Whats up fellas? Well last night was quite misty and foggy here and predicted to be that way the next few days! Lets hope for the best. Any one have any good edible hunting advice as well? I have done my share of cyan hunting in the bay but never really any edibles here in So-Hum. There are a shit ton of turkey tails and a few random LBM's here and there. Any ways I'll keep you posted!

Today was a success!

We found about a million Russula.

We found quite a few chants too. There were 9 of us in total.

2 other shroomerites besides myself.

Too bad I did not see more of you MH&I folks out there.

Laccaria amethystina-occidentalis

Sneaky chant hidden under a tree.

Lactarius rubrilacteus!!! First time finding this.

go over to that side of the river though.

I'm an east-sider 4 life!

I live on the east side too, I just catch the bus for work, also the reason I haven't been hunting lately... i thought your profile pic looked familiar. By chance have you ever come across (tricholoma magnivelare) matsutakes? I was finding massive patches in the napa valley ca area last jan. But they favor madrone trees so it seemed. Just wondering if any edible hunters actually find any amounts in the northern oregon area.

Just ate the lactarius. Well the parts the bugs had not already eaten.

I cooked it in a few ways.

Dry

Dry with salt

Safflower oil

Safflower oil and salt

Butter and salt.

I have to say they taste exactly like a cracker.

And we all know butter crackers are better. Probably hard to find enough of these
and enough without bugs to make hunting them specifically worth while.

One more in the books though. Boosh!

I am sure folks here have found them but they are not going to say anything to us.

I have never found it.

Well, next time I host a foray you should come along. We will carpool so you
won't need a car.

Here's an occurrence map. I've never found them but I think you need a special permit to hunt them, if I remember right they're not cheep.
