What Happened to This Cactus?
    #18840667 - 09/14/13 10:49 AM (10 years, 4 months ago)

This is a e. lageniformis here, and it was knocked over on it's side, then it probably rained on it. So I'm just wondering if anyone can diagnose what's happened here. Is it rot or what?

The yellowish skin indicates something more to sunburn, the black spots indicates rot, bat if you can post a better pic with the black spots it would be nice!

As rule of thumb, feel the cactus on that spots and see if they are soft, or softer than the rest of it, if they are, i would take him of the pot to cheek the roots for rot..

I see burned skin on the side you have took picture.. growth tip are okay, it's just have tried to go upwards when it has been fallen.

Black spots like these, if they are round and symmetrical, you don't need to worry about them. They are common with trichos.

If black area is different and not symmetrical spot like, then it's rot. Also if it's rot there is discoloration around the black area of the cactus..

I say it's fine... sun have burned the skin of cactus and black small spot is common with trichocereus.. you can if you wan't cut it away or let it be but I don't really see it has really rotting.. Only cooked by the sun from the side you have took photo.. It will stay there but sun burn is not serious and years later it doesn't matter at all. In purpose of ornamental cactus, it's ugly but there is nothing to do the skin. It's like that and nothing will change back.
