Opinions on wide mouth 1/2 pints for agar work?

I know you guys have used these, I've read a tek even awhile back, but not having used them myself for agar work I wanted to ask how they compare to petris. Pros and cons, etc. Just don't want to go out and buy some to find they're less than I was hoping for. The main reason I want them is because I'd like some non disposable petris, but glass ones are out of my budget atm and the ability to make an injection port on the lids for inoculation is appealing as well.
Some things that come to mind for instance are does the depth make them more difficult to work with? Does the extra headroom (eg air space above) negatively affect the growth? I would think it may encourage more tomentose growth as it allows for more humidity, perhaps the agar recipe is that much more sensative? Is there any benefit (or should you even?) to using a GE port on the lid? Anything else you can think of, just looking for general opinions before I decide to make a purchase.

I used them a few times trying to avoid buying petris. I couldn't get it to work for me. I'm sure it was 99% my fault cuz I'm a noob, but that 1% fault is just the awkwardness of the opening. I just couldn't get my clumsy ass to get it right. I just went to pre-poured petris.

The main benefit is that you can PC the jars with agar already in them without the agar boiling over and out of the dishes. I would highly recommend these jars for agar work over the normal 1/2 pint wide mouth jars:

They're shorter so you don't have to reach in as deep with your inoculation loop or scalpel.
This is how I set up those jars:

Some clone tissue growing out in the jar:

Slightly off topic, but can you also use an inoculation loop to make agar transfers or is it just for spore inoculation?

You could also add some self healing injection ports in the lid. (yes I'm a thread resurrecter, sue me)
Would at least make inoculating with spores cleaner at least. LC too

taking the whole lid off and injecting would make everything cleaner than an injection port.
never seen a g2g done with an injection port, you have to remove the whole lid. petri dishes don't have injection ports, you take the lid off. injection ports are so 90s

How would opening the lid be cleaner than sticking a needle through a port?
I thought it was obvious that you couldn't take wedges or do g2g using an injection port

Can't sterilize a port. If you're working in a sterile environment or with sterile technique then you're gold if you just spray under the lid.

you can pressure cook ports. You can wipe ports with alcohol. How is this any less sterile than the rest of the jar?

alcohol only sanitizes, and when opening the lid you dont have to rub your needle into anything non sterile.
