Azzie question - inoculation

Hey fellas, so I've been giving thought to starting a massive outdoor azure bed and I'm feeling lazy so I want to just start a lot of spawn from spore solution, my question is this: would it be alright to just make coffee soaked sawdust/tiny hardwood chips with a dab of gypsum added to each jar or do they HAVE to start on my rye berries?
I know you guys are mostly used to cube questions so I apologize if I'm throwing you off your game lol, thanks guys!

Nothing wrong with experimentation..I don't see why not as long as you sterilize everything properly. That being said...if you want to assure success, I would suggest using tried and true methods. Those things you are talking about present a MUCH higher risk of contamination and a lot more work for not much of an improvement in your grow. Grains provide everything mycelium needs to colonize healthy and quickly with minimal risk of contamination. They provide the perfect micro-climate within the jar and are highly nutritious. The same can't be guaranteed with that Frankenspawn you are contemplating. Just my opinions...

You can make a small BRF PF cake and use it to inoculate the wood chips.

What about generating a couple gallons of liquid culture first? That should speed things up and help prevent contamination a little further.

No offence friend but that's a horrible idea. LC's are crap. No way to know if it's contaminated until you use it, then if it is...you have to throw the whole thing away...it's a waste of time and money and spores... The best bet for you if you want to skip grains and go for your weird concoction is to germinate your spores on AGAR, isolate away from any contaminates, then use those live cultures to knock up your jars. Stay away from LC's....most TC's here will tell you the same thing.

Yeah I only use woodlover lc for my "Johnny Appleseed" journeys around the city as they generally don't yield any success lol. I was mainly wondering about the original sub used for inoculation because I've had squirrel (pretty sure it was squirrels at least) issues in the past with them digging up my berries and hurting the network. Other than that I'm purely just curious as to what effect it will have, if any, on the mycelial growth. I think I may just go with the berries as a primary and start 2-3 of the dust/chip jars to see what happens, probably won't even be able to order the spores for another week but I can post results when I have them if anyone would be interested in seeing what happens.
Thanks cult-nerds! Lol

You can use contaminated LCs (really contaminated everything) outdoors with success. I mean, these things grow naturally with all sorts of contaminants around them.

Yeah but you aren't going to get clean spawn with contaminated LC...It's not like you can just dump some LC outside and it'll grow mushrooms.

If you can get enough mushroom mycelium from a dirty LC in a grain jar it can still be fruited outdoors successfully.

Still not convincing me why it's worth it to do an LC...higher risk, more time, more work, no increase in reward.....why bother?
