Looking for some moving advice.

Currently I am living in S. FL and very much want to move.
Things have become too stressful here and I have too many bad memories. Being on the news several times didn't help either.
Sometime after Christmas I'll be moving, just not sure where.
Any suggestions? Preferably someplace where I wont need a car.
I have been to New Orleans several times and loved it. Got a buddy in Portland asking me to come visit. I've never seen snow and I can't stand this sweaty balls weather anymore.
I know it's not a very large amount of money but I will have roughly $8,000 to move with. I don't work , I get a $1,200 check every month and I make money doing odd jobs.
Just looking for some recommendations on a cool place to move. Maybe some advice. I'm sure someone out there has picked up and moved for whatever reason.

You should go play in snow before you die.
But if you end up being homeless you don't want to be somewhere cold.

Its hard to be homeless in Canada. There's lots of work up here. Even if you work at a fastfood joint you'll be able to afford a half descent appartement and enjoy some of lifes comforts.

Im in quebec but everywhere is the same. Usually friendly people, growing economy and real freedom!
If you come here to work you will. Minimum wage is around 12$ an hour. And a studio apartment is around 550$ a month.
What kind of work you looking for?

And as far as transportation goes. I never owned a car and don't intend to ever own one. If you live in the city its non issue. Public transport will take you anywhere you need to go.

Single guy with $8k? You're doing pretty well, you have a lot of options. I'd say New Hampshire. Very low unemployment, good weather, super populated with Libertarians so not as many laws/better chance of sympathetic jury if you ever get caught with possession/selling, too.
Oh, and no income tax.

Just had a buddy sell his car for $8k and moved to Denver, he doesn't have a car, and is loving it. You won't go to jail for Pot! I'd personally move to Washington or Oregon. Hope all works out for you! I do miss the wondering nomad days.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
As much as I love the beach life in sunny south florida, the cons are vastly outweighing the pros.
Very much looking forward to traveling and meeting new people.

Florida sucks balls. I have lived here far too long but am soon moving to Washington state which is basically the opposite of FL in almost every important way.

Where do I start? Rednecks. Close-minded conservatives. Sweltering heat, humid weather and of course, hurricanes. Mosquitoes 12 months/year, 24/7. Other large, noxious bugs and critters, i.e., palmetto bugs, red ants, alligators. Fraud capital of the universe. Home of oxycontin express. Home of Limbaugh. In direct competition with AZ for craziest state. Sinkholes. A place where it's okay to kill a young unarmed black male and where people like George Zimmerman can get away with murder.

Sweltering heat, humid weather and of course, hurricanes. Sure its on the hotter side down here. But I'll take this weather over a cold ass winter any day Mosquitoes 12 months/year, 24/7. okay. get mosquitoe repellant if they are ruining your cook out Other large, noxious bugs and critters, i.e., palmetto bugs, red ants, alligators. If you know anything about energy and Gaia's grids then you know Florida is a real shitty place to live. There's a reason for all the tall ass towers on FLAT LAND?? Anyone who's sensitive to energy can tell what's going on down there.

Anonymous #9. You pegged me. Good job! I live in N. Florida where ironically enough, there are a lot more very southern people than in South Florida. I've lived in both areas. They both sucked but in different ways.
In southern FL, I felt like I was in Manhattan with none of the perks.
In northern FL, the southern drawl, friendliness (fake usually), and slower pace were charming at 1st. Eventually the drawl sounded ignorant to me. The last straw was when some asshole yanked a presidential banner (guess which one) out of my lawn, tore it up and threw it in the vacant area across the street.
You can have FL. When I leave I never want to return. Watching it grow smaller in my rear view mirror will be a beautiful sight indeed....
