Burke Dennings said: Haha, I watch a lot of movies. Also, any time I enjoy a film, even just a bit, and there's a commentary on the DVD, I listen to it. You'd be shocked at how much info you can glean about filmmaking just from those commentaries. On that tip, if you own any of the 'Star Wars' movies, they have some of the most informative commentaries you can get because it's usually Lucas, the director (if Lucas didn't direct, as is the case with Episode 5) and then an actor and sometimes an editor, some times a sound or light director and other technicians. They really get into the technical aspects.
I have a whole thread dedicated to a movie project I started that you can read here: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/16382614/page/1/fpart/1
Huh interesting, I've never really been one to watch commentaries, sounds like something I should start doing for sure. And a whole movie project thread? What more could I ask for, I'll have to read that for sure. You've supplied me with more than enough content to look into, should keep me busy for a good while. Many thanks again!

*shudders*
Ingmar Berman's Persona.
that's another must watch... so is Alain Resnais' Last Year at Marienbad. so is Peter Greenaway's The Cook, The Thief, His Wife, And Her Lover

Anytime, man. I love talking about any aspect of films. Best of luck with what you're doing; keep coming back to this thread any time- I'll keep an eye out for it.
And yeah, it's astounding what you can learn just by playing the commentary. I highly recommend it.

Argh, this is one that I've been meaning to watch for YEARS and for whatever reason, I've not yet gotten around to it. If I had a damn nickel for every time I was told to watch this movie...

Anything and everything. If somethings had you pulled in to the point where you had an emotional response to it then post it.

Ordinary People: Donald Sutherland (need I say more?) really good movie about family. it's like "fuck family". nuff said.
A Woman Under the Influence: kinda similar alley. can't spoil anything bout it though, just gotta watch. it's more about Marriage then anything.
... ect

Akira: DAMN YOU. Fuck it, I'll find it tonight.
Bodhi: Okay, right off the bat, I think it's pretty obvious that I'm going to tell you to watch 'La Dolce Vita'. If you've seen that, I'll probably recommend 'Sunset Blvd.'. If you've seen that too, I'm likely to suggest 'Dancer in the Dark'. And if all else fails, watch 'Videodrome'. (I'm just thinking of personal favorites that immediately popped into my head, all based off of something I've mentioned in this thread.)

Lars von Trier's new film is going to be an "erotic drama" called 'The Nymphomaniac'. It stars Uma Thurman as a woman married to a nymphomaniac. I'm pretty sure this one will really push boundaries; von Trier isn't afraid to go anywhere.
