Smoking cactus flowers??

I went on an excursion looking for dried cactus flowers in the yard earlier. I discovered several small flowers on a ground-dwelling cactus, but have tried these to no avail in small quantities. I decided to skip those and look at the larger ones, I don't know cacti that well, but these ones had large pinkish-purple trumpet shaped flowers and the cactus bodies were bunched up together (no camera, no pics). I took cuttings of some of the dry plant material and packed it into a bowl with some cannabis, and discovered that it was indeed pleasant to smoke, and active! The buzz is pleasant and there is a slight luminescence to everything I look at. Does anyone have any information on 'smoking' dried cactus flower? I plan on not wasting any more of the rest and doing a proper extraction later tonight, I'll make a report about it if anything really happens. I just haven't seen anything in my searches about the activity of cactus parts, and I would like to see someone better-equipped with a sustainable source of cactus to do some experiments.

If you smoked them with some weed, how can you be sure that the flowers were "active?"

Well to be more precise, I tried smoking some of the same flower by itself last night, but it was very arduous since the plant material was still mostly wet. I took the cuttings and let them dry out today. I smoke the same cannabis every day and notice when there's a difference between this stuff by itself and a blend of some sort. Last night I experienced a very pleasant body high that I don't get from this cannabis, as well as mild psychoactivity, and today it was much more noticeable. Has the psychoactive content of cactus flowers ever been assessed?

Not that I'm aware of, but maybe you are onto something. IME it can be difficult sometimes to distinguish between placebo/anticipation effects and real threshold effects of things though. Was it a really pronounced difference?

Oh yes, especially considering the improper method of consumption and inferior amount of material used compared to the cannabis, I'd say it got me really quite blown, and I recognize the difference in how it affects my body/mind, the feeling is not the same. It definitely causes things to breathe, also it lasts longer than cannabis alone imo. Like I said, I'm going to shoot for something far more profound, but we won't know until I do. I am certain it's harmless if not healthful to consume, in reasonable quantities. The flavor of the specimen is sweet and aromatic, I could imagine cooking with it would be an interesting experience as well. I won't miss anything, if there is anything to be experienced, from a small dose, I figure it's better than taking a large one. I'm going to freeze the material, crush and boil with a small amount of water and some lemon juice, extract and consume the plant material and drink the liquid.

Interesting, hopefully someone can ID it if you get some pics up. Might have better luck with that in the Ethnobotanical Garden forum though, maybe a mod can move the thread.

Like I said, I have no camera. I work for my rent and that's about all I make. I'll look into getting one once I get an actual job, landscaping is good for other things but doesn't earn me the cash I need. I think this is likely to work though. Once it's slurried and boiled, it's down the hatch and past the gums.

Okay, here's an update (to anyone reading). I'm currently boiling the desiccated plant material of the cactus flowers, probably not enough material to induce a high-level experience but certainly enough (I hope) to experience at least mild euphoria if any is to be had from this experiment. It turned from pinkish-purple in tint to brownish, it's getting thicker and darker.
I'll publish a post about my experience afterwards and post a link to it in this thread! Sorry to double-post and bump, but I thought this little deal I have going might interest some of you.

Okay, I didn't think it was worth making a whole thread for this...
obviously, the cactus flowers HAVE medicinal properties. I froze, desiccated and boiled approximately 30 grams of the cuttings down to a small amount of liquid, strained the pale plant matter, and consumed it with a little salt. I'd note this material tasted amazing -- like a mix between broccoli and spinach, the salt made it even better -- the juice was bitter but bearable to ingest. I could feel the effects in the pit of my stomach moments after consuming, and felt pleasant waves of euphoria take hold. This escalated over the course of an hour -- I experienced VERY MINOR hallucinations and psycho-activity, less-so than when the same material was dried and smoked -- and I felt a slight presence in my liver and kidneys, as well as flushing, which was good since I'm fighting off a bug at the moment. Nevertheless, things have been wrapped up over the past hour. I'd say the effects lasted about two hours -- it helped my fever, my nausea and my headache. I feel tired now, better than I felt this morning before consuming said material. I'd like to see some actual research go into this before I make any uninformed assumptions, but I experienced positive, healing vibes from the cactus.
