Mushrooms over-ripe: safe to consume?
    #18837822 - 09/13/13 05:24 PM (10 years, 4 months ago)

Hello Shroomery:

I have grown these mushrooms as a part of my first grow (grow log to come) and this particular tray was left for a week or more in a closet because I forgot about it.  This morning it had some pretty big fruits that are clearly well past normal harvest time.  Some were mushy but I pinched off those parts and threw them out.  The stems are still firm but some caps are mushy and black/purple from spores.  Is it safe to consume them?  At the moment they are in my dehydrator on 160, I guess I'm hoping if there's any baddies that the temp might take care of it.  I don't see any obvious signs of decay or mold, but due to all the spores it's not easy to discern.  Pics below, and any and all help is appreciated.

btw: I would appreciate it if somebody could tell me how to post from imgur so that the images expand when clicked on.  I will change the settings on them.  Thanks!

You're gonna need some better pics than that... Can't really see shit.

How do you forget about a tray!?!  On your first grow?!?  I was looking at my shit 10 times a day my first time.

Lol, thanks to both of you.  I think the pics are better now.  I made a pretty big first grow: 2 trays and 24 pf cakes.  The tray in question fruited 2x and I thought it was about done so I flipped it over and put it in a garbage bag with holes in it. Came back to find 160 grams fresh mushrooms in it!

I would get them dry as fast as possible, and just know since they're so ripe you're probably gonna need to eat a little more to get a good effect.

Will do!  Just happy as hell to be able to keep them.  This makes me think I've been harvesting my mushrooms too soon since very few of them actually reached this size.  As of right now I've harvested them when the veil breaks and sometimes, especially on the cakes, that seems to happen when they are smaller than these.  So do they continue to grow even with the veils broken?
