[Changed] Distinguishing between white trich and mycelium.
    #18837811 - 09/13/13 05:20 PM (10 years, 4 months ago)

EDIT: Uh, DUH! Captions are the ones above the pictures, not below. Herpin my derp hard today! The pics show trichoderma that hasn't turned green yet.

Given that development, I'm going to change my question, since this still looks to me like healthy myc, how was this identified as trich?

Hi guys! I know what cobweb mold looks like for the most part, it's not hard to tell the difference, but I was checking out What It Shouldn't Look Like and one of the examples is a bit ambiguous.

Quote:

Trichoderma on coir (not green yet) - Paleopoint

Cobweb mold on monotub surface/side - Tmethyl

Even the edges don't look like the other pictures I've seen of cobweb where you'd see it expanding out like a web, the webbish edges appear to be missing. I also thought cobeweb was more gray and this is really white, but these honestly look like growing myc. Could a more experience eye point out the distinction for me?

In my experience, it just looks like very thick mycelium. Way thicker than mushroom mycelium.

It is also much more aggressive.

If I suspect an area of being the beginning of a trich contamination, I will keep a very close eye on it. It will be very obvious as it races out on its campaign to conquer the world...

It has a different texture than mushroom mycelium and although it start grey it almost immediately turns white, noticeably whiter than any nearby mushroom mycelium. But pictures speak louder than words
