Hey I make it I'll explain it. but the recipie is a secrest becsuas I make several differnt kinds and some have nothing to do with fungus.
First off all I make an extracts ie tintures using chaga,, rishi several others. Its basiclly chopping up dry peices and letting the soak in a 95% Ethyenol I use High Grade Everclear. Let it sit shaking it from time to time for several months then filter it. ITs good for you taking it daily like that. just several dropper fulls  .
I make a wine using chantrealls raw hony and candy caps a Lactarus species. Basskly add 1/2 fresh chantrelles in a larg glass container
Hony yeast and let it forment. Tast like a wild aprocote like wine. That is one way
But he good stuff is this, What I do is I take a pound of Fresh Chantrealls Raw unprocsessed sugar  1/2 ounc goldenrod and fill that up with a really high proof good quiltiy Vodka. This takes about one year to make. Then I put the lid on and set it in the sun for 4 months and shaking it daily After 4 months then it sits in a cool dark place like buried in the ground for 6 months. Then it is stained and filterd and kept in the sun for one more month then in the fridge for a month. Then you can drink it I don;t know why so complecated but it the way I was tought. It turnes out Very good and you can get really drunk on it. That is a chantrell laquare. Like making Kalua.
Also I use candy caps bassiclly the same whay. I do the same for Rishi
and Chaga
Also there is the Chaga shine. Thats basically Chaga soaking in some good Moonshine until it takes on the reddish color. Good flavor and it gets you really drunk
Reshi shine same thing as the chaga shine and you can get really drunk on it.
I once met an elder Asian man seveal years back in the woods doing the sam3 as I, collecting Rishi. I don't hardly ever run into mushrooms hunters but usually a good conversation arises out of it
He explained to me that in Japan they would take Rishi and cut it up int 1 inch squares then soak it in a good qulity saki in a dark place for two months. When the solution turn its dark reddish color it ready to drink. you drink a shot a day. It will give you imortality he told me so I've been doing that and still here.
OK that all I got on the alchole thing with mushrooms.

What first interested you about mushroom hunting? I just started hunting mushies this summer. Free gourmet food from the woods is my main interest mostly! Im Pretty poor lol! Like the deer here I supplement my diet with mushrooms! I love chicken of the woods, Maitake, Oysters, puffballs, shaggy manes and morels  Ive found almost every edible mushroom growing wild in my area in less than two months! I've been bat shit crazy for fungi! Its both a good and bad symptom of bipolar disorders hypomania I experience. I will be super interested or agitated about something for months and thats all I talk about or want to do! My hi-gene gets bad, I rarely sleep when I do I punch shit in my sleep or have vivid dreams, my house gets neglected, my thoughts race good, bad or even both back and forth for short or long periods of time. Then after the super high fun ride hypomania with its fearless delusions of grandure comes paranoia, depression and suicidal thoughts or ideation. Ive been this way since an early age. I recently became disabled and used mushroom hunting as a means to occupy my mind in a good way rather then bad. I am very dangerous to myself one second and scared to death the next it seems. I don't want to get high. I just want to fill my stomach when I am  hungry. I guess I just like playing hippy lol. Its fun to chit chat with so many different kinds of,people!
Also back in college I met this stupid girl who thinks she knows how to find magic mushrooms. She got a few people together and drove out of state to her hometown PA. They went at night and searched cow pastures. They came back with a ton of LBMs! I took one look at the pile and said. I wouldnt eat those if I were you! She distributed them amongst the dorm and many People got sick with no effects! It was then I began noticing how stupid people are when it comes to wild mushrooms. Ive had friends in the past tell me they had bought and ate some magic mushrooms. Id always ask. What kind were they? Never got an answer most times. Closest right answers were Psilocybin mushrooms and my personal favorite Suicidal mushrooms lol! I don't eat magic mushrooms. Im mainly interested in studying the gourmet edibles. Its illegal for one and two I do not think I can bring myself to try something that can potentially be a risk to my health or even kill me! My body is my temple... I am curious about their effects on OTHER people in the past. Having learned so much so far Im dumbfounded by just how mushroom illiterate people are. Not here of course! Just like with bipolar disorder (which I have) there is a stigma surrounding the reasons a person would hunt wild mushrooms.

No field guides just the net. I was very careful getting IDs for anything I saved or consumed. Although on the suicidal note I have eaten some wild edible gourmet mushrooms without proper ID.

Shroomery! None of my friends care about mushrooms unless they are morels or magic lol. Im all alone with plenty of time and the internet. I tell them I can find magic ones if I want to but don't keep them. If they want to know how or where they are I tell them its a secret spot. I don't condone the use or collection of any magic mushrooms I have found! Purely a hobby that will soon fade as others I was becoming incredibly good at!

I cut the chickens with a knife most times unless I don't have one on me. Most gilled mushrooms I gently work free from the base trying to keep most of it intact. I don't carry a magnifying glass but I do have an iPad handy and a microscope at home for looking at spores.

I usually put them in the fridge if they need to stay moist and cool. I put them in my ATVs cargo bag Or in a small red cooler I carry with me. I put paper and other misc. things to absorb shock. I wait for full IDs most times lol and research them until I'm tired of reading and hungry then I say fuck it and cook em up in some butter if I never tried them before or oil and garlic. Depending on the gourmet mushroom of course and whether or not I have tried it before  I try to give them to friends only after I have eaten it alone and didn't get sick or after two weeks prior to ingestion on new to me mushrooms. Most times just like when I was as obsessed with fishing as much as I am mushrooms now I would give friends fish it nine times out of ten goes to waste. They doubt it or give it away usually. So when I noticed this I started cooking mushrooms up myself and letting people watch me tear it up! I tell them to proceed with caution on everything you eat and not to trust my opinion lol. They see me eating it and they dig right in short there after lol.

I'll confess; I had a friend who's mother I had a crush on in my adolescence. She hunted mushrooms. I had already noticed mushrooms and been curious about them by this point, but that was a larger factor than I often like to admit. A little later, I heard about 'magic mushrooms' during drug education in health class and was reprimanded by my teacher for being a little too curious about them, and asking to many questions. Some times that is the very wrong to to dissuade a young person.

Quote:

How did you initially get into mushroom hunting?

It was another excuse to get out into the fields and wood. During high school I made a couple of friends who were also curious. By the time I moved to California, it was an excuse to wander around Bidwell park in Chico. I found some internet resources and A friend got a copy of the National Audubon Society Guide. We brought lunch sized paper sacks in backpacks and hoodie pockets.

Quote:

How did you begin to build your knowledge base?

I picked up a lot of advice from the couple of adults who had advice on the subject to give, but more than anything, the internet and David Arora's book got my pointed straight. Then the acquaintainces and friendships I've developed here over the years with some of our very dedicated people showed me which directions to point my attention, and this helped dial things in quite a bit.

Quote:

What is your own process for harvesting?

I've developed all sorts of methods. It depends on what I'm collecting. Containers range from paper sacks, packpacks, those clear clamshell containers berries and produce come in to compartmented lunch containers. And always the old standby of pockets. In san francisco, I even resorted for a while to carryign around an starbucks or gas station coffee cup. I could collect mushrooms, carry them without crushing or injuring them, discretely, even on my way to work. Nobody would look in side it and ask pointed questions about why I was so strange, and all would still be well after my shift, so I could take them home. How I harvest depends on what I'm collecting. There are not a huge number of muhsrooms which can't be cleanly 'picked' away from what they are growing from without a level of damage comparable to cutting them away. I carry a small knife for either event. I have a nice enough scope, and lighted magnifying lens, but these are bulky, an stay at home. One of those lighted hand lenses would have helped me immeasurably a couple of times. Instead, I have simply developed the superhuman dim-light vision we seasoned mushroom hunters all secretly have

Quote:

And finally what is your process for preparing them?

Again, this depends on what I've harvested. I have mostly stored in paper in the fridge, dried or cooked immediately, but I have expermented with sauteeing and then freezing, brining or parboiling and then freezing and once started to experiment with canning but somehow lost focus with that and abandoned it.

There isn't a time I remember when I wasn't hunting mushrooms. My parents were both hobby hunters and took me to the forest as soon as I could walk. As I grew up, the idea of getting gourmet food from the woods was appealing and natural. Didn't get interested in psilocybin mushrooms until I was in my late 20's

Quote:

How did you initially get into mushroom hunting?

See above. We had a pretty good collection of field guides and hunting gear at home, so I helped myself to these.

Quote:

How did you begin to build your knowledge base?

Mostly through family tradition. The internet wasn't around until I was well into my teens, and there wasn't exactly a lot of mushroom information on there at first - let alone verifyable and thrustworthy information. My range was fairly narrow though (Boletus, Suillus, Cantharellus, Craterellus, Lycoperdon, Lactarius, Gypsy Mushrooms). My parents instilled me with a healthy distrust of gilled mushrooms that I still haven't entirely overcome.

Quote:

What is your own process for harvesting?

I usually use cloth bags, tend to pluck my finds, only do field dressing when there are obvious rotten parts and way too much soil.

If I collect an unknown species, I try to take a few representative specimens, keep them separately from the rest, take them home, spore print them, take pictures, compare to my keys and ask online.

Quote:

Where did you learn these methods?

Learned my standard hunting methods from my parents, my identification methods from books and online.

Quote:

And finally what is your process for preparing them?

The process I use most often is cleaning, evaporating excess liquid in a frying pan and then freezing in plastic bags. If I have a large amount of Boletes or morels, I also dry them, usually in the oven. As for cooking, I have a wide array of mushroom dishes that I can't really condense into one paragraph. Some are improvised, some come from my recipe books, some I find online, though I tend to consider recipes as a means of a loose inspiration rather than something to be strictly followed.

Ingredients that I find go well with almost any mushroom are shallots, garlic, white wine, pepper, paprika, oregano, parsley, thyme, sage and pennyroyal.

Depending on the mushroom of course and whether or not I have tried it before  I try to give them to friends only after I have eaten it alone and didn't get sick or after two weeks prior to ingestion on new to me mushrooms. They see me eating it and they dig right in short there after lol.

so if you werent using any guides, how were you making positive IDs? Through shroomery alone?

I researched many sites after the IDs here before consuming. Except on one occasion. Im over that. If I die I jave to live with that. :frown: if I live I will be way more cautious!

Might Take Some Time, But I Will Find It! Whatever it is. Im a determined person!

What first interested you about mushroom hunting?

I'll confess; I had a friend who's mother I had a crush on in my adolescence. She hunted mushrooms. I had already noticed mushrooms and been curious about them by this point, but that was a larger factor than I often like to admit. A little later, I heard about 'magic mushrooms' during drug education in health class and was reprimanded by my teacher for being a little too curious about them, and asking to many questions. Some times that is the very wrong to to dissuade a young person.

And finally what is your process for preparing them?

Again, this depends on what I've harvested. I have mostly stored in paper in the fridge, dried or cooked immediately, but I have expermented with sauteeing and then freezing, brining or parboiling and then freezing and once started to experiment with canning but somehow lost focus with that and abandoned it.

a mushroom hunting milf!? no one could have resisted that.
