One of those annoying "is my monotub ready for fruiting" posts :/
    #18835899 - 09/13/13 07:40 AM (10 years, 5 months ago)

Spawned to bulk on 06/09 (or 09/06 for the Yanks ) 1:2 ratio.

I spose to me it looks covered except for that patch you can see in the last picture. It's been like this for several days though - I was not expected it to be covered this quickly. Saying that my stupid assistant (aka buddy) forgot to give me two jars to mix in so they kind of only got part mixed in and mainly near the top.

I wondered then whether it was worth giving it a couple more days as the center might not be colonised and also to wait for that little patch to cover...?

Apologies as I know people post this *&^% again and again!

Also on a lot of the pics I've seen you can't see the colour of the grains peaking through (this was done with rye) but in my tub you can clearly see the grainy colour...that a problem??

It looks fully colo'd to me but I found that consolidation time of at least 5 days or until pins appear is best for mono's

Personally if your going to be less than a week i would leave it till i got back for a better pinset.  Tl's one flush wonder mono tek suggests the same thing

It seems everyone has different opinions about whether to let bulk substrate have a consolidation period or not. Through your own experience you'll have to decide what you thinks work better. To answer your question it is 100 percent colonized and can be put into fruiting if you so desire

Before the festie it is then! The perfect thing about that is that means not looking at it for 3/4 days and hopefully coming back to a nice surprise

I seriously doubt you will have pins when you return. When you put a tub into fruiting right at 100 percent you don't usually see pins for about 5 to 10 days. Who knows though. Maybe you'll have a quick pinning strain

Well I did say "hopefully" and it's been looking like 100% for a few days so hoping for something when I get back :smirk::thumbup:

Thanks buddy IF it's a success I'll post the proverbial "mushroom prOn" if not I will hang my head in shame and not be seen here for a month or two :uhoh:

And don't worry - I will have a massive amount of fun at the festival  despite the trapped nerve in my neck that has meant I literally have not slept since Tuesday night :thumbdown::smbfacepalm:

Fruit them.

Consolidation is for high-nutrient substrates like BRF+verm. The mycelium needs time to "digest" the substrate.

Pasteurized bulk is very low-nutrient, and once it is colonized 100% it should be fruited. This will maximize yields and minimize aborts.

FAE is the number one pinning trigger. With low levels of nutrients in your bulk, you should not smother the tub when it is fully colonized.

I opened it up briefly and accidentally disturbed the top layer and doesnt look at all colonised underneath

Of course it doesn't, you damaged the mycelium.

The same logic applies to grains that are 100%.

When you break up your jar of grains, the mycelium that was nice and healthy looking "vanishes."

That does not mean it is not 100% colonized, it just means that the mycelium now has to recover.

I've run many hundreds of tubs at this point. They all get fruited at 100%.

I've tried consolidating many different times with many different isolates. IMO it is only detrimental to consolidate bulk

Myself and others have found that by fruiting at 100%, it increases yields pretty reliably

Plus the science behind consolidating high-nutrient substrates is sound, but not so much for consolidating bulk.

Well I'm gonna leave it a bit longer TBH

When I say a bit longer I mean I have some ice cream to eat, I need a ciggy and I want a beer. Hopefully doing these things will increase my yield
