I was pretty stoked on the find. I was totally unsure what the hell it was but the designs were so cool!
What it turned out to be, apparently, is the leg of a Victorian era potbelly stove!!

Now its the corner of one of my raised garden beds.

Wow, that's an awesome find.  It's so old and uniquely ornate. The craftsmanship was so much better back then.

I'd be zoning out for hours with a metal detector in that area! :rotfl:

All this is why I like my good ole' Hoosier woods. No Mexican cartels, rarely ever any bears or cougars (the feline kind), not very many poisonous snakes, or really any kind of deadly animal. Haven't seen any clowns or zombies either, yet... There are so many deer, rabbit, turkey, raccoons, possum, skunk, and squirrel that the coyotes would rather leave humans alone. The meth heads around here aren't smart enough to cook in the woods, they just do it in their homes. And most land owners will let you walk, forage, and hunt their land. Especially if you share your haul.

yeah Indiana doesn't have a lot to boast about but woods-wise people are pretty easy going, outside of morel season at least. I know the small woods my family owns has a surprising variety of choice mushrooms. Hens, tons of CotW, morel, shaggy mane, puffballs, oyster, lion's mane close by, enoki, and tons of inky caps.

What, what what!?! Shut you lying dirty mouth!  :poke:

But seriously, Indiana has a lot to boast about. First and foremost, our entire state is full humble folk who would rather live a good wholesome life than bury our spirits in the big city fast passed life. Even Indy has somewhat of a comfortable rural feel to it compared to many other places I've been. We have the cleanest amusement park in the country (Holiday World/Splash and Safari), the gorgeous Hoosier National Forest, fertile farm land, GenCon, endless local cultural festivals, the Indy 500, Brickyard 400, an extremely rich history, and many other notable aspects. Did you know that the iconic Cocoa-Cola bottle was created right here in Terre Haute? Until the federal interstates came through, Terre Haute was the "Crossroads of America", as US 40 and US 41 intersect in our downtown. We are 30 years older than Chicago, and were the original "Sin City" before Vegas was built.

PS - Any and all negative aspects about Indiana associated with Gary and Crown Point are not relevant. No self-respecting Hoosier will claim these two cites. They are forever considered the "asshole" of Chicago, and we all secretly wish Chicago would just claim it for there own.

In no way am I saying I don't like Indiana, just that it doesn't have all the appeal to some people that cities on the east and west coasts have. I much prefer the relaxed rural life I have here. And I didn't even think about the Indy 500 and Brickyard ( I hate racing) but aside from them Indiana is more laid back and that's what I like. The extreme weather fluctuations can suck pretty badly but I like it. And yeah Gary and Crown point don't exist to me lol.

Compared to Jacksonville and Orlando (only two big cities I've lived in), Indy is a good ole' down-home town.

I have been in some big cities and it still feels like a city, not rural at all and definitely not comfortable to me. I was not made for the city lol

Maggots are disgusting. Some animal died in my shed, in the area between the ceiling and the sloped roof and maggots were falling trough the gaps in the ceiling like rain.
