Random things you have found in the woods
    #18836353 - 09/13/13 10:36 AM (10 years, 4 months ago)

So sometimes when I'm out hunting I will find some odd things.  As far as random objects go i cannot tell you how many random golf balls and party balloon remnants I have stumbled upon while on a hunt.  I also find quite a few bones and sometimes keep the skulls and antlers i find of various animals.  But I think my favorite thing to find are signs of human settlement in random places in the woods.  I dont mean like abandoned construction stuff mind you, I mean a really chill place in the woods where people have put certain things for a certain purpose. Sometimes it may be a statue or a few statues, and other times in might be a a secluded bench with a nice view.  So I thought I would share some pics with you guys of some of the places like that that I have found.  Wondering if you guys find stuff like this as well?

so here is the first that i found. i thought from far away i had fund like a honey cluster or something and then as i got closer i was surprised to see that it was a statue

the next item i found the following day was a "reclaimed" bench that someone had  painstakingly stolen from the area and hiked about half a mile into the woods. I like to go there to sit and consult my field guides with my finds of the day.  Its nice to have a flat surface to work on sometimes.  Also the area is full of beautiful amanita to look at.

and this next one is pretty special. it had a few little statues

and

and this view

they had made this bench themselves and even added a custom inlay

Basically it was the perfect little kick it spot to randomly stumble upon in the woods after a long day of hiking/hunting.

Lets see, I know Neosporen would say Balloons! We were hiking the other day and apparently he always finds ballons, it was odd though, we ended up stumbling across one way up in the mountains. this party balloon, it was super sketch...

I have found two Geocaches, a pipe, an old cabin in the mountains, canon powershot, with 2g mem card. an assortment of lotions, lots of beer cans/bottles, not statues though, thats weird.

I have definitely found over 20 different party balloon remnants in the course of my hunting experiences. Its sort of creepy how when they float away they always seem to end up in the thick of the woods.  The golf balls piss me off a little bit because I think I've found a puff ball only to discover that it is in fact something entirely different. I suppose people like to practice their swings on random hill tops and just let them fly into the forest to be lost forever. I think I've found roughly 15 golf balls while hunting. (keep in mind both the balloons and golf balls are in totally different hunting areas, its not like its by a golf course or what have you...)

we call those native snails in cali. they are much rarer to find than the common garden variety (which im fairly sure are non native). also i think in the course of my life i have only ever seen perhaps three or four alive. more often i just find their shells.
