It's a career man. Do I give shit to my friends that are cops? No...(maybe because they do a shit ton of molly with me)
Either way. The key to life is happiness at least in my perspective, and if he wants to be a narc..so be it.
I got raided yesterday, and yea, it fucking sucked although I luckily had nothing in my house that was illegal, but they were just doing their job. I think the war on drugs is bullshit, I KNOW it is...but it creates jobs.
Just because I like to do drugs doesn't mean narcs are all bad people....
Bro, that's the weakest fucking excuse in the history of excuses. Even worse, that's the kind of logic they're using, and I find it completely disgusting to see that bullshit coming from a shroomerite.
"Yeah, I know the war on drugs is bullshit, and completely destructive to society, and ruins peoples' lives for no reason, but it creates jobs, man. Those poor cops gotta eat too." And let's not forget about all those poor prison guards, who might not have as much work if millions of americans weren't locked up for possessing flowers, or components of flowers. And all those poor DEA agents....

Come on, dude. The war on Drugs is so destructive and harmful, that is no justification. Would you also advocate WARS? Real wars? With troops on the ground, and bombs and missiles and dead civilians? Because those create jobs too. In fact, wars stimulate the economy like nothing else. How about we just start some wars, if you feel like job creation is the most important thing for society?
You seem like a cool dude, but you should almost have your shroomerite card revoked for making such a stupid statement.
Back to the real issue-- okay, becoming a cop is one thing. We do need cops. But a drug user aspiring to be a narcotics officer, specifically? That sounds like one of the most hypocritical, sketchy career choices possible. And it sounds to me like this guy has too high and opinion of himself. He feels like he has such good judgment, and is so confidently right that he should be able to decide which drug users and dealers deserve jail, and which should be allowed to go free. That's not right. Who's around to decide that his drug crimes are acceptable? That it's okay for him, an active drug user, to pick and choose which of his peers, his brethren are deserving of jail?
Too sketchy and fucked up.
And IMHO remaining friends with such a person is very risky. It could be a great thing. Insider info. Maybe a certain level of protection. Of course, that is only if he sees you as, as good of a friend as you do, and as long as he doesn't decide that you're deserving of jail for some reason, or in his way, or a risk to him, knowing what you know about his past / lifestyle, etc...

Why not tell him the truth? That you think the war on drugs is wrong and that you believe this government to be fascist?! Tell him, that you think they are the bad guys and you do not want to lose a friend to them.

I agree with you, I don't advocate wars, I was in Iraq for 18 months, but that's besides the point. Or advocate the war on drugs. It seems like a lot of people put words in my mouth in this thread.
I was just expressing my opinion just like everyone else is entitled to theirs. I wouldn't want a friend that's a narc officer, much less rather have to deal with one. My only point is that if OP's friend doesn't take the job, another asshole will. Everything else you mentioned I completely agree with.

Yeah, but again, "If I don't do it someone else will" is not really a valid excuse. If everyone saw the war on drugs for what it was, and did the right thing and refused to take part, it would end tomorrow.
And respectfully, I don't believe I was putting words in your mouth. I just re-framed your argument. Your attitude very much seemed to be that it was an okay choice to make, because the guy needs a job. Which ignores the possibility that he could get a job doing all kinds of other things, or become a cop, but not a narcotics cop, specifically.
I was just pointing out the supreme fallacy of that view by using the ("real") War analogy.
The war on drugs ruins a lot of lives. Taking a job as an active participant in the war on drugs is the equivalent of taking "blood money." To do so is to say that the war is somehow acceptable, and to further human suffering and further damage society. IMHO that is a completely unacceptable moral choice. Especially to someone who sees the fallacy of the war (and sees that drugs are not innately evil, and to see addiction for the disease that it is, etc.) Which really upsets and disgusts me because it seems like just one more symptom of a society with a greater sickness-- where it is seemingly becoming more common and "acceptable" to behave like a psychopath. Anything, any harm to others, is acceptable as long as I "get mine" because "I gotta eat" and "somebody's going to do it anyway, so might as well be me that benefits."
You can find similar logic in most of the majorly corrupt areas of our society.
