But they're orthadox, so they're definitely still 'them's'! Plenty heathen enough for a good ol' christian slaughter

Ok...
(Don't I just curve under peerpressure. )
I was debating on weather or not to call this a history fact anyways...
OKAY! So we all know the classic picture taken by the Surgeon Dr.Wilson as he was on his way home from the office.

But what many of us don't know is that this photograph has been severely cropped.
Here is the original of the classic "surgeons photo."

Ya, that's right...

Sara, I have a question about history. When I was growing up, the history books always discussed textiles. Now, I understand the definition of textiles. But, a little birdie told me that textiles = hemp throughout history for the most part. She went on to tell me that the government tried to hide it from young scholars by dubbing it textiles in history lessons. So, what do you think? Is it true?
By the way, cool idea for a thread. History is fascinating and there is so much of it. I bet there is way more history that was never recorded.

The use of hemp was diffidently widespread in places such as Colonial North America, in some cases even having laws ordering farmers to grow hemp. Franklin, Jackson, Jefferson, Madison, Monroe, and Washington all even grew it. Even though this is true, I would still say that 90% of the time when you hear the word textiles, it means cotton. What I'm guessing you're referring to is the industrial revolution, in which textile production played a key role. Any of these textile factories of the industrial revolution were all cotton mills.

Thank you Sara! I suppose that makes sense. Slaves in the US picked a whole lot of cotton in the south.
You'll be a good teacher. I have taught in the past and it gives you a whole different perspective when you're the one marking up the chalkboard.

Ya during the time of the Civil war most of the worlds cotton was produced in the US. After we couldn't do it, it created BIG problems. The East Indi Trading Company basically forced India to make cotton instead of food, that coupled with drought and El Neno one year resulted in the Victorian Holocaust. The Victorian holocaust was a great famine throughout all of India, that was estimated to have killed upwards of 20 millions people. The horrible part about off of this is that the British saw this coming. Instead of giving them the extra food they needed to survive the British decided to instead do nothing because they didn't want the Indians relaying on them for any sort of assistance.
And thanks!

You guys think a dude going into WW2 with a bow is cool?
How about this fucking badass who went in with the rest of the soldiers to raid the beach front on D Day. Except, he wasnt armed with any weapon. This nigga got off the boat with a set of fucking BAGPIPES, and played his way up and down the beach during the whole entire intense firefight. Niggas were dropping all around him but he gave zero fucks.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/obituaries/military-obituaries/special-forces-obituaries/7952729/Piper-Bill-Millin.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Millin
When we completed storming the beach, captured German soldiers were asked why they never shot at him. They said they thought he was bat shit insane and wasnt afraid to die so they shot around him.
He survived.
