I am currently using Malwarebytes because years ago I heard it was the best.
Anything better out there that's free?
I have a program called "webcake" that looks like it needs to be removed.

Kaspersky TDDS killer, all modules, ran in safe mode to scan. Quick and efficient. Not to be confused with their regular product, which is heavy on the system and doesnt pick up all web malware.
Are you looking for real time scanning of web, and system, or on demand? I've tested a few and have my favorites.
HitmanPro, 30 day trial, then delete completely and it should give you another trial. Does give more false positives tho.

Webcake needs to go. Start in programs and features, in the control panel, and uninstall it.
While in program and features, you can see what other pups (potentially unwanted programs) were installed at the same time as Webcake (there is usually a lot bundled together), just click on the date heading to organize the list and they will be grouped together.
after uninstalling them, update and run Malwarebytes to remove the pieces they leave on your system.
Malwarebytes also has a good free rootkit tool you can run, Malwarebytes Anti-rootkit Beta.

I just used regular Malwarebytes to remove webcake. I restarted, and then ran a full scan again. It doesn't appear on my computer anymore, and I do not see it listed in the control panel programs.
Could I be missing something? I heard that webcake was quite difficult to remove.

I like to do a search for the program or file then try to delete it. If it is running as a service and the system won't delete it then restart in safe mode and then do it. This same method works pretty much for all malware.
If the problem is somehow just in the browser like a browser hijacker then go into the browser settings and disengage java. Also best to get rid of about 90 percent of browser addons. They are mostly just commercial shit.

Check IE add-on and toolbars, remove or disable Webcake there, too. Removing the program from programs and features doesn't get it all, even running Malwarebytes won't. this applies to Firefox, too. If you use Chrome, consider removing the whole program, unless you want Google tracking your internet use and selling the info...

Honestly, I hadn't done anything since I used Malwarebytes to remove webcake. It doesn't show up on the scan, but I had my suspicions. Especially since webcake is notorious for being difficult to remove.
What is the opinion on Microsoft Security Essentials?

Microsoft Security Essentials:
Piece of shit IMO, but worth a try.
Use Spy Bot Search & Destroy, Rogue Killer (http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/roguekiller.html), HitmanPro 3 (http://www.surfright.nl/en/hitmanpro/), CCleaner (http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner)
After you have these programs on you're computer, and installed, disconnect it from the Internet and run them. I would run HitmanPro 3-->Rogue Killer--->Spy Bot.
After doing that, use CCleaner to clear out your registry, and check your startup programs for anything iffy. If that doesn't work, you can burn "Hirens BootCD" and boot your computer up from that and attempt to remove it that way.
edit:
Also make sure you have a good firewall set in place, and lock down your browser. For FireFox I suggest: NoScript, HTTPSEverywhere, Ghostery.
If you're ultra paranoid, you can download SandBoxie, and everytime you run your browser, run it using SandBoxie. Note if you're downloading a program that you need, you'll have to move it from SandBoxie into your actual OS which can compromise it. Make sure you clear out SandBoxie after you run it everytime.

Does SandBoxie 64 bit work well with windows 7? I used it before but it was crashing my computer.

Personally I use AVG. Never had a virus with it. They have a free version, or you can get a 30-day trial of their full version. However, I think you can just keep re-installing the 30 day trial of the full version every 30 days, so you could just do that. All you need to put in is an email I think. Though, the free version is good enough that I stick with it.

I'd be wary of AVG free IMO, it might seem like it's doing well, but a full, complete Anti Virus solution is much better.

Yea it does, providing you are using a 64bit Windows 7 OS.

Good call! Just using a firewall doesn't mean your system is safe from viruses. Plus using the default settings isn't always good either; It's best to configure them to suit your needs. Firewall+Anti virus is a good way to go, also locking down your browser you are using.
Also having firewall+antivirus doesn't mean viruses will get stopped. the malware spreader can encrypt their virus to not be detected by firewalls, etc..
