Contam or mycelium
    #18833548 - 09/12/13 06:01 PM (10 years, 4 months ago)

I inoculated two jars about a month ago with the Burma strain spores. For the entire month, there simply was no sign of life. The brf jar stayed uncolonized with no sign of mycelium growth or contam. I was confused over why the Burma strain did not grow as readily as the Golden Teacher which I tried successfully before. Suddenly, though, I am beginning to see noticeable white growth in both the Burma jars. The only issue is that it doesn't appear to be stringy and ropey like the GT mycelium.
Instead, it is ghostly white, practically transparent in less dense areas. Because this type of growth is new to me, I can't help but wonder if this is the Burma or if it is a contam. I don't have any pictures unfortunately, but in any case it would be difficult to make it out as distinct from normal mycelium.

Its hard to tell you without a picture.

Sometimes with different strains you will get 'wispy' mycelium instead of the 'rhizomorphic' growth, but generally over time the 'wispy' looking mycelium will pick up.

It could be a contam though, like I said hard to say without a picture.
