Noob looking for some help on a find NC

Found this mushroom growing near pecan trees. Some were growing on the tree in clusters and others were growing in clusters on the ground about 2-3 feet from the tree. Was curious if someone could help me ID this mushroom and maybe point out a few others that grow in the asheville/charlotte area that are easy to find and edible. Thanks a bunch

Thanks a lot for the lead on that midnight. After researching into that species it does seem to match the Armillaria. Thank you very much for the info. Going to try a few of my first fungus from the wild! Any good ways you know to fix these to bring out the flavor?

If you're going to eat them by themselves you could try sauteing them in garlic/butter with salt & pepper. Or add them to a stew.
Also, with any edible mushroom you haven't tried yet, it's good practice to try a small cooked portion and see how it settles with you.
Welcome to the shroomery btw

Make sure you fully cook them before you eat any.

Just wanted to say thanks for the advice I got on this mushroom. Sauted some with a few different flavorings and styles. Was a very good first experience with wild mushrooms. Member for life on this forum already!! Now to find and grow some more...
