Dragon Quest/Dragon Warrior series
    #18833397 - 09/12/13 05:23 PM (10 years, 4 months ago)

Any fans? Dragon Warrior was the first video game I ever owned, and later I played the other 3 NES ones on emulators. Recently I have been playing Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 2 for DS. Pretty fun but the amount of grinding involved is pretty ridiculous. The higher level monster synths would be pretty much impossible to figure out within the game, but thankfully all that stuff is catalogued online. I also have DQ 9 for DS but haven't beat it yet. Apparently there is some way to link them together using two systems but I haven't tried it.

I'm into it.

They're probably going to announce the Remake of 7  a few months before it comes out next spring on the 3ds in North America.

Cool, I've played some of that on an emulator but I didn't finish. I got a used 3DS this summer but I have mostly been getting DS games for it so far.

Yeah, some of my friends from highschool who are totally into rap and electronic bought 3ds's the other day,
I was so surprised! They're waiting for Pokemon to come out.

There's this game called Bravely Default that is definitely coming out here that is going to kick some sweet ass after the updated version is finished and then there's monster hunter 4 which will be tight with Network Mode this time

Dragon Quest is awesome. I first got into the series about 14 years ago when i was about 9 or 10. I was obsessed with pokemon, as all kids that age were back then. I found out about Dragon warrior monsters for gbc through a mag. The game was unfortunatly never released in AU where i live. As youn as i was, i wanted to play that game, and found a way. I imported it through ebay. I played it and loved it. Since then i've played several dragon warrior/quest games; mostly through rom because Australia has never seen many. I've played DWM 1, DWM 2, Tara's Adventure and DQM Joker 1, DWM I&II, and a little bit of DQ IV DS, and DQ V DS. I hated the changes introduced in Dragon Quest Monsters Joker, but i've heard DQM2 has produced a great game like DQM1 should have been.

Yeah DQMJ2 is definitely a cool game, never played the others though so I can't compare. I've heard good things about the pro version but it doesn't sound likely that it will be released in English. That was always the problem with the whole franchise for a long time, a lot of releases were Japan only.

Another game I checked out recently is DQ8 for playstation 2, heard good things about it and visually it looks great. I'm running it on an emulator.

Haha, I used to play that game as kid.

Funny thing is that I always thought it was a Pokemon rip off, but after reading this thread I did some googling on the series and it ends up they used the monster battle idea back in 92.

I found out yesterday that DQ8 is available for Android (and iOS). It was only $15 so I bought it. A few things make it more frustrating to play (awkward touchscreen controls, portrait mode only) but it's playable and looks great in HD. I would definitely have preferred a 3DS version but it doesn't sound like they're considering one.

Huge fan ever since I was a kid. I used to have dreams about the Dragon Warrior series all the time... no joke.

Dragon Warrior V was my favorite of all time I think

I don't think I've played that one, should see if I can find it for DS. I have 6 and 9 for DS but I got busy with other shit and haven't finished them.

They should totally remake 1& 3 with less battles neccesary to beat the game and better graphics, the games themselves were the first entry to graphical RPG's

Ok, yeah that one I have played (NES version on emulator). I liked the part where you played as the weapon merchant.

If they released the NES originals on 3DS virtual console I would totally buy them. I used to have 1+2 for GBC but I gave it to a friend's kid. Didn't like how they changed the translation of the first one, I liked how the spells were things like Hurtmore and stuff in the original.

You also needed two times more exp in the original NES cart.

I used to play. My favorite was Dragon Warrior 3 for Gameboy color, played the hell out of that game, it was so fun collecting medals and grinding lol:peace: Made long rides purposeful. My mom also got me Taras adventure for a birthday once and that game was a hoot too:sunny: Only other new one I got was setinals of the starry skies and I beat the shit out of that game. Its almost the last new game ive played of the sort!

Yeah I find the grinding aspect satisfying somehow.

I'm plodding along at DQ8, the shitty controls are not super intrusive when you travel long distances (there's an auto mode where you just have to steer) but I can only handle about an hour at a time.

I remember #1, was the first RPG game I ever got for the NES... Used to get me so ears red fuckin' mad, was so RNG unless you grinded out levels   I loved that you got to choose good or evil with the last boss and how after completing you could talk to every character in game and they had something different to say, often just generic congratulations, but it was just those little attentions to detail that made it pretty epic.

Oh metal slime, how I hated you the very first time we met.

Then we became fast friends, well, for a short while at least....

Then I moved on, to bigger and better slime friends and left you all alone to hang out with the weak green slimes. muahahahaha

NOW WHO IS BOSS. FUCK YOU METAL SLIME.
