Or our near-instant communications allow us to record events at an unprecedented rate.

We hear about things faster, but that does not make weather events happen any more or less frequently. I am referring to actual climatological data compiled over the past 150 years. The information exists; all you have to do is go look at it.
Looking here instead of Foxnews.com is probably a good start

And how do you think all that data is collected and corroborated? Oh yeah, communication.

I am not really sure what your argument is supposed to be here. Is it that because communications were slower in the past that our compounded knowledge of events about anything which happened before the internet revolution is inherently faulty and to be disregarded? I think you might be surprised to discover how tenacious some of the early climatologists and meteorologists were in their efforts to collect data. More than that, the intervening time has allowed previously unallocated data to be properly collected and organized.
Things are easier today, yes, but that does not mean all previous data can be dismissed as faulty, incomplete or misleading.
Oh and for future reference, one-liner "GOTCHA" responses such as the one above don't generally work on me. They might make your friends laugh or make you think you are clever, but in the end they usually just result in making you look uneducated. If, however, you have any well thought out, logical arguments to make I would love to have a lively, civil debate.
