Purple EDTA Vacutainers --- Jar Lid Tek
    #18833237 - 09/12/13 04:41 PM (10 years, 4 months ago)

I've found some REALLY cheap ($5.00 for 100) purple top EDTA (anticoagulant) vacutainers. I'd like peoples opinion if they're usable for this tek: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/8364022/fpart/1/vc/1

(Or for any other injection port / SFD jar lid tek)

I plan to boil or PC and scrub the hell out of the rubber self healing portion before using them (if everyone thinks it's a good idea).

I broke one of the self healing injection ports out of a lid and it fits PERFECTLY (nice and snug) into the half inch holes I've drilled into 50+ plastic jar lids.

If anyone knows:

A) ** Does EDTA kill/hinder spores or mycelium? There would likely only be trace amounts left after I clean the tops.

B) Do purple tops survive PC? (pretty easy to test myself if nobody knows)

Some many pictures:

They fit in the holes (holes that were intended for red tops!)
Obviously they still need to be siliconed in there... If you guys think it's a wise idea to go ahead with these:

Oh yea, if anyone is Canadian (the shipping to the states would make it less worthwhile) and you'd like to be PMed the ebay link (he has 7 cases left) I'd be glad to do it.

It's $15.00 shipping for an order but you can get as many (up to the 7 he had left last I checked) as you want and it's a flat shipping rate.

So all in I got 300 for $30.

Just about to silicone these into my jars lids. (after I finish the hand cramping work of removing the self healing portion of the vacutainers)

Anyone at all have experience with these purple vacutainers? Or any vacutainer with EDTA?

If not, I will respond with how it went

oh yea I forgot to mention, they PC fine
If I'm not mistaken they got a little more dark after my 90 min @ 17 psi test run.

I compared them before and after by sitting them in the 1/2 inch holes I drilled in my lids. It doesn't look like they changed size.  A handful were done twice @ 90 mins as well.

Edit: Oh and most importantly! The needle goes in with the same amount of effort as new.
