Maybe I'll buy a mac for my next laptop, or maybe I won't. I don't know I really don't give a fuck.

You want a computer that lasts, if I was going to spend $1000 on a computer I would definitely go mac. As it is I go Windows, its like the Walmart of computers
Windows doesn't make computers dude.

That's an OS. You must be talking about Microsoft. Still need a computer though

^ that's what most people don't get.
Apple and Microsoft have completely different business models - apple is vertically integrated, they wanna sell you the whole package, hardware, software, tech support. Microsoft sells and licenses software with other companies, but is slowly changing the landscape of their business model, I think, someone more knowledgeable on that front can probably elaborate better than I can. I'm not terribly up to date on that kind of stuf.

Yeah in all seriousness there are numerous companies that make pro level computers and ship them with Windows. Like Apple's pro level computers, they tend to be pretty expensive. If you want a really durable computer check out Panasonic's Toughbook line, those are built pretty fucking solid. Of course there are much cheaper computers out there with similar specs, but that's how it goes.

the apple browser automatically rejects 3rd party cookies and iphones have a much better permission system.
just going by those two things it seems like apple is the company least trying to fuck your privacy in the ass.
I dunno thats just an assumption though.

Actually it would make more sense to call Apple the Walmart of computers. Apple tends to make their products for idiots, which is why most people never run into errors on macs. Windows based computers are a lot easier to break.

The only software I've purchased for mine has been stuff(CAD/lighting control software)I would've had to buy/install regardless of the OS. I'm pursuing visually oriented stuff and I do use my computer, but I don't need a high end graphics card or a shit load of power to accommodate it, so I've got no opinion when you delve into that world.
- I know you can install your desired OS on pretty much anything, but to start, personally I prefer apple's interface because it's efficient, user friendly, and aesthetically pleasing(yes, this is a valid factor for some of us).
- Apple also offers an integrated, high quality product that is also generally lighter weight compared to most pcs of a similar size in my price range, this is an important factor to me because I have to carry this shit around a lot.
- I do not have to worry about constantly updating anti-virus software, I don't have to worry about new viruses designed to bypass said antivirus software. I'm not saying it's impossible to get one, but it's a lot less likely and a lot lower maintenance in general.
- I can go through Apple for tech support, repair, and replacement parts are more easily available and cheaper, in my experience.
- You can get a very decent laptop for a few hundred bucks, wipe it clean, feed it RAM, bing bang boom, good as new, accomplishes everything that needs to be accomplished for me while suffering being dropped on hard wood floors many a time(would not recommend, either way)....so please tell me, why I should've put that 350 dollars towards a PC instead, I'm really curious.
... Sometimes I miss MS word, because text edit sucks but there's a variety of free open source software available to remedy that.
edit;
I do want to try Ubuntu someday...when I'm not so lazy.

Open Office is pretty dope.
Though MS Office is worth paying for since being familiar with it is at least an advantage and at most a requirement for a lot of jobs.

I guess I did.
I was really trying to imply that macs are for idiots and the same is true of walmart.
Also considering macs are usually more expensive than their PC counterparts, I don't know why I thought that was a good analogy.

This thread pops up every once in a while, and a bunch of idiots always come in and regurgitate the same shit they've heard over and over, with no real knowledge whatsoever.
OS X is a great operating system built on BSD. If you do any sort of web development, Windows is an absolutely NIGHTMARE since it is really designed as a single-user OS, and more importantly, it is not POSIX compliant.
Windows is in fact the ONLY major OS that is NOT POSIX compliant, which makes it utterly useless for a huge host of purposes.
Nowadays, people are trying to make computers like the Macbook Air, but guess what? They're actually MORE expensive. And they get worse battery life. And the build quality is worse.
Were you awware that the new Macbook Air gets 13-14 hours of battery life? The best review on a Windows machine I have seen pegs them at 7-8 hours with Haswell. That's almost HALF the battery. There has also never been a single even remotely usable touchpad on any Windows laptop, which for me is a deal-breaker.
I do iOS, Android, BlackBerry, and web development. I run a Hackintosh desktop to do most of my work, but I also have an Apple laptop. Until manufacturers fix some of the major flaws with Windows laptops, such as the touchpad, I would never consider purchasing one. I use Windows once in a while, but I am really not a fan of the OS, and the difficulty I run into trying to script / run servers, etc makes it next to useless.
I do play games on Windows, since developers tend to optimize their games more for Windows, but that's it. There is nothing else that I would prefer to do in Windows. And the build quality of Apple products is the best - there is really no comparison to any other manufacturer.
BTW I use an Android phone (Nexus 4) before anyone starts to call me an Apple fanboy. I absolutely am not.

I'm also involved in web developing and video editing, and I have been on a mac for a long time. I actually tried using a windows last year, and like pwn said, it was a nightmare. If I were into gaming or the like I might consider getting a PC, but I'm not. People argue that macs are less repairable than PC's, which is bullshit. Anyone who says that is not experienced enough with apple. I have been on the same macbook pro for 6 years, and it's still running flawlessly. Never a virus or OS failure. Any hardware issue (which is very rare) can be fixed easily, and, if you know where to go, cheaply. In fact, the computer itself can be acquired cheaply if you keep an eye on the market.
My mother wrecked her third windows laptop a few years ago. They were dropping like flies. I set her up with a macbook air almost 3 years ago, and she has never been happier. The design, weight, user friendliness, convenience, has made for a good experience. She also get's twice the battery life now, which is great, because she travels a lot. And, it only cost $400. I had a $400 PC once. It sucked ass.

I use Open Office, but it pisses me off how there are no keyboard shortcuts in the spreadsheet for fill down and fill right. I've stopped using pirated software for the most part, don't want to have to worry about viruses or whatever if there's an open source or freeware program that does what I need.
