He shot for the UK in the World Archery Championship in 1939,
so he knew what he was doing with a bow before the war even started,
so I might imagine he would be a better wingman then one might expect at first.

It is true that really good archers can shoot scary fast.

I still think it's a little weird to prefer something like that in a battle with more modern weaponry. Maybe have one around as backup or something....

You know there is no turning back now. We will be expecting historical trivia at least 3 times a week. Look at poor learyfan. He tried a few of these "on this day in Hippie-ville,  :blah: happened" years ago, and if he stops now, He's

Going by one fact a day I already have a list that will cover two months Vinsue.
After that I didn't have enough room on my paper so I decided to call it good until a bit further down the road.
But yes I agree, this is quite a bit of an undertaking, but I think it should be pretty fun.

I changed majors in college after a semester as a history major... tooo much writing, not enough learning! Also, unless you want to be a writer or a educator like you, there really isn't a whole lot else to do job wise. That's sick you're going to be a teacher though! I couldn't handle the disinterest most kids show in history.

I want to make the lessons/lectures into youtube videos everyone watches as homework.
Then have class be 100% discussion based to hopefully overcome some of the students disinterest and make it more engaging.

Todays fact of the day is about the Childrens Crusades.
But first, a little background knowledge on the crusades themselves.

The crusades were a series of religious conflicts that really mark the start of the High Middle Ages and continue until the end of the Middle Ages.
These crusades were focused on taking back Jerusalem from the Muslims, a land believed to be sacred in both religions.

In early spring of 1212 Nicholas of Cologne, a 12 year old German boy led a group of 7000 children across the Alps into Italy.
Their thinking was, that children were more pure, and therefor God will grant them the power to succeed in battle against the Muslims.
Nicholas promised his followers that God would part the sea for them, but as they reached the sea 2/3 of the children had already died on the way.
As we all might have expected the sea never parted, most of the children stayed and lived in the nearby city of Genoa, others tried to make it back and died.
Back in Germany Nicholas's father was arrested and hung.

Later that year, in France a second childrens crusade was formed by another 12 year old boy named Stephan of Cloyes.
Stephan much like Nicholas had promised that the sea would part.
When the reached there and after some time it still did not part, they decided to pay a ship to sail them across.
It turns out the ship wasn't set sail for Palistine, but instead the Algerian coast to sell the children into slavery.
Opps!

I can think of alot of jobs that are worse than teaching, the lack of interest and putting up with kids all day would probably drive me mad though :P

Now that we are on the topic of the Crusades, lets talk about the siege of Constantinople.
During the fourth Crusade, the Christian crusaders met the Muslim forces in Egypt, in which they decided that would be too much trouble.
So they marched on the Byzentines, allies as well as fellow Christians instead.
