anyone try prolotherapy for tendonitis?
    #18819506 - 09/09/13 04:19 PM (10 years, 5 months ago)

been dealing with some pretty severe elbow tendonitis, both 'tennis elbow' and 'golfers elbow', in both arm... much worse on the right arm though, for

my last job destroyed em... picking up and smashing 50-150 pound hot iron castings on the floor repeatedly until they broke off the riser, then tossing em into bins.. it was extremely taxing on the body, super repetitive, conditions were brutal hot, and the shifts were 12 hours with one 20 minute break... didn't take long for my elbows/back to completely shit the bed on me.

I've tried physio, ice, heat, cortisone, pain killers, rest, etc... with little to no success, cortisone kinda worked for awhile, but I'm right back to where it hurts really bad just to put salt on my eggs, get a glass of beer to my lips, twisting the cap off a bottle, pretty much anything to do with using my arms...

one of my friends suggested acupuncture, so I found a place that specializes in that kind of thing, and the dude I talked to said he's almost 100% sure he can actually HEAL this injury with this prolotherapy instead of just masking the symptoms...

sounds great... but I'm a bit skeptical, doesn't seem like it's a very well known treatment for some reason, and it's stupid expensive... but I mean if this shit really works, I totally in, this shit is gettin old.

any experiences?

Acupuncture is fantastic, i am studying it currently and i know it is great for pain, inflammation, etc. Just remember it can work fast, but a lot of times it takes roughly as long to heal as it did to injure, it is a slow process. But complimented with diet, exercise and other lifestyle changes you will heal faster than with any other therapy!

ya acupuncture has pretty well documented success, I have no doubts that shit works...

but it's this prolotherapy I've never heard of... and a little skeptical about (only a little)

it's expensive, and it doesn't seem very well known.. I have done a bit of research now though and it does actually seem pretty promising.

what they do is put a shot of dextrose and shit near the effected tendon, which actually causes inflammation, which triggers blood flow to the affected area, which will kickstart the healing process... that's it in a nustshell anyway.

prolotherapy

might as well try taking some fish oil supplements before going a more expensive route. it helps with my tennis elbow though i doubt it's as bad as yours. worth a shot though.

Aha! Well I can tell you acupuncture is more than just science and body healing, it is emotional, psychological and physical healing. Needles also increase bloodflow.  Moxabustion therapy is fantastic for increasing blood flow and promoting healing, i have used it extensively with great results on patients. Herbal formulas can address your constitution and specific needs, of course you'd have to find a GOOD acupuncturist  Good luck my friend

went for my first injections yesterday... the shots weren't as bad as I was expecting.

my arm hurts like hell today though, and is bruised and swollen, but I guess that's supposed to happen...

still a bit skeptical, but hopeful at the same time... shit's costing me over 100 bucks per treatment, and I'll probably need 3, maybe more... at this point though, I don't much care, even if placebo can do it's magic I'd be happy with it

now... will the placebo effect still occur if there's skepticism involved?

anyhoo, I'll update when I'm due for my next one, which will be in about 3 1/2 weeks
