Annual Cicadas for lunch!
    #18780182 - 08/31/13 02:39 AM (10 years, 4 months ago)

Hi everyone I found one of these in my house. A female to be exact. Very large and possibly full of eggs. Ive been reading up on the subjects and seen people eat them. They are like the shrimp of the ground belonging to the same family as the shellfish. My quesfion is. Can you eat the annual Cicada and prepare it just like the 17 year ones?

Crustaceans are in the same subphylum.  Cicadas are not crustaceans.  They are both arthropods, but so are all "bugs".  I have no idea if annual cicadas are edible.  Probably not worth it if you have just one.

While cicadias may be tasty, few insects are more filling and delicious than the locust.

man it would probably take more calories to prepare than you would consume. best to let it go or use it for bait.

I'd eat it.  I was looking forward to having some this year, but this was a poor season around here for them...
