I think I did something stupid
    #18828303 - 09/11/13 03:20 PM (10 years, 4 months ago)

I while back I took a clone to agar. I let it grow out until I saw it was clean and transferred it to grain. I didn't do anymore transfers because I was just happy that it was clean and I am still not 100% confident in my sterile procedure.

Now for the stupid part. I took the clone from the first flush of a monotub but the culture I used for the mono was 2 months old. I have used g2g transfers to just keep it going and do mono after mono.

When I transferred it to the grain master it took longer than I expected to colonize but since I had never done agar wedge to grain I wasn't sure if that was normal.

It did eventually fully colonize and I did my g2g transfers like I always do. Normally when I do g2g I have fully colonized jars in 7 to 10 days. These jars that I just g2g have been colonizing for 7 days now and they are barely 20%

My question for you guys is do you think this is a lost cause? Since the culture I made the clone from was so old is this clone going to perform poorly?

Any insight on this you guys (and girls) can provide will be greatly appreciated.

P.S. I may not be able to be on here much this evening. I am getting ready to go pull a 12 hour shift but feel free to pour your wisdom upon me and discuss this among yourselves

It could just be that you prepared your grains a little on the wet side which is what is slowing down the growth.

Was your clone a pin?

There is some leap off time when doing agar2grain. The myc gets used to the agar and has to learn to switch to the grains. It may just need a few days. But, once it gets going, it should take off as normal.

I just dropped some agar to grain that was about 8 months old. It seems slow. I'll prolly dump it and make a new culture.

I have not done any cloning yet, but when I do, I plan to take it from a good looking fruit from the first flush of the first mono.

I don't think what you did is stupid, but the myc might be tired after multiple g2g's.

Try injecting it with  trich. Just kidding. thought you could use another laugh.

Lol yeah those trich spores are awesome nutes for cubes

Spitball you didn't read my post very thoroughly did ya? Or maybe it is just because I'm not very good with my words. Either way... I already got the master jar that I dropped the agar wedge in fully colonized and did g2g to make 7 more quarts. The 7 quarts have been colonizing for a week and are only about 20 percent. I used a lot of colonized grain in each jar during the transfer. Usually when I do this they are colonized in a week and these are not even close. That is why I am concerned.

I guess a better question would be in you guys experience does a slow colonizing culture mean it will be a poor fruiting one?

They have not stalled, just slow. Also I know the moisture content of my grain is correct

Well...

I'm no professional, but I believe primal, or stonesun... Or one of them users on here...
Has a potency project going on... I believe.

The theory was that a slow colonizing mycelium will generate really potent fruits, because of the amount of enzymes it has been able to build up in the long colonization times.

Or that could be total crap. I'm really high... So yeah.

I've read before that wet grains will slow colonization times... As stated before.
I've also read people with slow colonizing mycelium, get really potent fruits.

Im not an extremely experienced cultivator, but I just want to bring this up since this has been the main cause of slow growth for me:

Same grain preparation for the master and subsequent jars?
Same grain source?

Those jars may be too wet or dry.

Also, in my experience again, agar wedge to grain jars benefit greatly from a ~30% shake. I have had jars go for 2 or 3 weeks to get to ~25% and after a good shake they finished in ~3/4 days...

Good luck either way! Hoping someone more credible chimes in!
Much love.:happyheart:

:hi:

I think you've just exhausted the mycelium at that point.

You can't G2G forever. That expends a lot of the mycelium's energy.

I doubt that clone will perform well.

My two cents

But if you put it in a grow kit and then case it with some weird looking woodchips you can probably blow us all out of the water.

So I am gonna drop a thread here that proves, with Myc anything is possible...

Only because we all said toss it LOL

I think that's a completely unrelated thread there, Sock

Thank you frank. This is not what I wanted to hear but it was kind of what I figured. I don't think I will waste the time, energy, and resources on making a tub on the 7 jars I have colonizing. (if they ever finish colonizing) I will probably just leave them in the cupboard and let them do what they want. Maybe I will get some invitro fruits off of them

I just started a new grain master from a ms agar wedge last week. I will take a clone from the first flush of my first tub and try again

Agreed. Everyone was in agreement that tray didn't look right but it still gave a good flush

I am still not sure what to think about that
