Preparation of Cakes
    #18827656 - 09/11/13 12:46 PM (10 years, 4 months ago)

Hello all,

So I was wondering, is it possible to make a bunch of substrate beforehand, keep them in the jars, and pressure cook them when the time is right?

For example, the pressure cooker I own can hold three jars at once.  So would it be possible, say, make enough for twelve jars, have them covered with Al foil, and put them in when the other jars are ready to be incubated?  Or would that lead to possible contamination if they were to sit for a couple of days?

Thanks

No, this is not a good town for psychedelic drugs.”

Here are some threads on this topic. I was wondering the same thing at some point.  Is this for grains or for half pint brown rice jars?

In your situation I would make enough substrate for six jars at a time and PC them in two rounds back to back.

If you have a larger stock pot you could considered steam sterilization (Assuming you're doing brown rice jars) but if you have the pressure cooker you may as well use it.

Does your smaller pressure cooker reach 15 psi?  I remember seeing a smaller one in the store once and there was no mention of what the max pressure was.

Probably need to clarify if you mean substrate or spawn and if you mean substrate why you would be pressure cooking that anyway

I was confused at first too but since the subject of the thread mentions 'cakes' he's probably talking about PF Tek.
