Here's a useful fact most people don't know, I only do because a friend worked there.
Starbucks tea is served at half strength. Meaning they mix it half-and-half with water before being poured over ice. So! If you like strong tea, like myself, here's how I order- "Black ice tea, no water, unsweetened" And there ya go.

Day 9:
Vlad the Impaler
Prince Vlad III Dracula, not called Vlad the Impaler until after his death, is a historical figure known by many different people, for many different reasons. Many of the peoples of present day Romania see him as a courageous and fearless leader who banded his country together to fight off a foreign invasion, where as others may focus on other aspects of his life, and call him a sadistic mad man. From the modern Dracula myth to the hemomancer champion "Vladamir" from the popular MOBA League of Legend, we see examples of how this man still influences our society today. But why?

Perhaps what he was best know for, was his cruelty. He was a very strong military leader, although some times his tactics might have gotten a bit out of hand. His name comes from the great frequency in which Vlad would impale his enemies on stakes, both as a fear tactic, as well as for his own pleasure. A historical source written during the time Vald was in power give us more of a look at just how twisted Vlad was.
Quote:
He roasted children, whom he fed to their mothers. And (he) cut off the breasts of women, and forced their husbands to eat them. After that, he had them all impaled
By the end of this reign, sources say 80,000-100,000 people had been impaled by Vlad, including entire villages and even fortresses. Apparently once, a group of missionaries were sent to his castle, to convert him and he had them all tortured and impaled. Not only known for impaling, Vlad enjoyed other form of torture such as gouging eyes out, live skinning, boiling and dismembering. A commonly told tale about Vlad is that he enjoyed throwing garden parties in the middle of forests of impaled victims. With all this being said, I will end this section with a quote of his. "I did this all so that no one would be poor or sick in my realm."

Although perhaps one of the strangest things about Vlad happened after his dead. After his dead, Vlads body seemingly disappeared. After returning to the believed resting place of Dracula, multiple investigations have come up empty handed. This only increasing the vampire and Dracula myths surrounding this individual.
A special note to everyone: These last two facts of the day have been a direct result of reader feedback. If you want a specific area or topic covered in future facts of the day, feel free to chime in.

well, he was definitely schizotypal, or extremely paranoid of outsiders. hence, anyone even tying to step by his reign, if they were considered "invaders", they probably be brutalized to make a point. a somewhat crazy point.
that fuck you, this is my spot on the Earth, you will die now.
it seems to this day, people en masse still carry that mentality.
anything else medieval, would obviously be great.
plus, neoclassical history... moar twisted human stuff each day. i love eet.

Vlad's story is fascinating Didnt know they never found his body. Yikes maybe the king of vampires is real and Bram Stoker actually met him
Recently there was a new portrayal of dracula/vlad done. In starz's new show Da Vinci's Demons. Anyways I gotta say its definitely my favorite portrayal of him so far.

That video mentioned an interesting fact I was going to mention, Vlad was a nationalist and his brother did go over. He was captured several times and stuck to his position as a nationalist. His enemies tactics weren't all that different than his own either, he was simply on the losing end of a political game which involved his own countrymen as well as foreigners.
If he had won then it might have been one of his enemies with his reputation, albeit I did hear of a time where his position was being marched on and the army turned back upon seeing the forest of impaled corpses.
