really takes the romantic notion to a whole new level. "so what you do today, dear?"
"shot a guy with a crossbow and dove into a bunch of men with spears, and killed them, out of sheer pleasure. oh yeah, and there was the king and stuff, he's alive."

Weren't noble girls oft as not to lose their maidenhead from the horse as they were from the wedding night?

For one, I think it's an honest typo ("maindenhood", an anachronism of the word "virginity").
Never seen oft used like that though...

No, i said maidenhead - and it wasn't a typo, and it was being used in its literal sense, in reference to the hymen.

Day 8: (hopefully dark enough for akira)
300% mortality rate
Robert Liston was a British doctor who worked during the 1800's. At the time he was highly renowned for being able to provide the quickest amputation around. And when the process of amputating a limb causes excruciating pain as you might imagine, so every second helped. He was known for being able to provide three minute amputations, cutting clean through legs and only occasionally taking the patients testicles as well.
But what is is most known for having a 300% mortality rate one amputation. Liston boasted that he could do a two and a half minute amputation, naturally this got the attention of others, especially in the medical community. And keep in mind, back then operating rooms were different, there really were not waiting room. So when Liston did his amputation the room was filled with spectators.

Robert was a man of his word, two and a half minutes after the amputation had started, the leg was off, except the patient was loosing too much blood. Becoming panicked, he accidentally cuts off three of his assistants fingers, killing them. Now increasingly more panicked, Liston accidentally spins around with a knife in his hand, fatally cutting a spectator. In the middle of all this panic the patient bleeds out, leaving Dr. Robert Lipton with the only 300% mortality rate in any operation in medical history.

That's awesome. Medieval times are probably my favorite part of history. I love swords and bows and all the good stuff. This guy is cool
