Hmmm, I guess I can take your word for it, I think I can trust you. Not really though, you seem like a liar. But I can respect that, for now...

Fun Fact for the day...
Quote:
Man Behind Oregon's Famous Exploding Whale Dies Oregon highway engineer George Thornton, who in 1970 led an operation to blow up a dead beached whale with half a ton of dynamite, died this week at age 84. Thornton's decision resulted in a foul shower of whale blubber; video of the event has resurfaced periodically, often leading viewers to declare the whole thing a hoax. http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/2013/11/01/242347861/man-behind-oregons-famous-exploding-whale-dies
"Bit's of blubber rained down all over the beach and bystandards."

my debatable, maybe not true, fact of the day
the bronze age used lots of copper, some of it was mined in the americas specificly Michigan
Quote:
Recent scientific literature has come to the conclusion that the major source of the copper that swept through the European Bronze Age after 2500 BC is unknown. However, these studies claim that the 10 tons of copper oxhide ingots recovered from the late Bronze Age (1300 BC) Uluburun shipwreck off the coast of Turkey was “extraordinarily pure” (more than 99.5% pure), and that it was not the product of smelting from ore. The oxhides are all brittle “blister copper”, with voids, slag bits, and oxides, created when the oxhides were made in multiple pourings outdoors over wood fires. Only Michigan Copper is of this purity, and it is known to have been mined in enormous quantities during the Bronze Age.

On this day in 1942 the Italians suffered a major defeat with the destruction of three of their best front line divisions in North Africa. Faced with these tragic results Rommel is forced to retire despite Hitler's order to hold fast to the last man.

I'm very sorry everyone with how long it has been since my last post. I can only see my girlfriend on the weekend, and I was spending some VERY much needed time with her. I'll do my best to keep the facts coming at a reasonable rate. Love you guys, and thanks for all the support you have show thus far.
Day 31:
Pregnancy in the Middle Ages:

As I am sure many of you have realized by now based on my past posts, the Middle Ages is diffinity one of my favorite time periods. Coincidentally, many of the past facts I have used to far have been from the Middle Ages, this is another, and most diffinity not the last.
The peoples of the middle ages operated under a very different set of beliefs then we do today. The very idea of science is not even invented until the Scientific Revolution which proceeds the Renaissance. As a result much of what they believe to be fact and true, proves today to be completely wrong. (such as Christianity)
One examples of just this is the beliefs surrounding pregnancy in the Middle Ages. It was believed that the sex of the developing baby was determined by the temperature at which the mother kept herself at. They believed this was true because all peoples would start out male and if the mother got too cold it would change to a less valuable female. Here comes the really weird part, they believed this happened because the penis go too cold and would invert into the body forming instead a vagina. But if the mother would keep herself at a warm enough temperature, the penis would not invert and the child would remain male.

As strange as it my sound, with as little knowledge as they had they were not that off. The idea of sex being determined by temperature is a very real thing, and is called Temperature-dependent sex determination or TSD in biology. Temperature-dependent sex determination is most commonly found in retiles such as turtles, birds, and alligators. If you notice all three of those have one thing in common, their young develop in eggs rather then their mothers stomach.

this makes me think of this guy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Dee. You should do a 'bad dudes' segment on him some time. He was an important scientist and mathematician but also an alchemist and occultist. He channeled angels and spirits

I feel like Sell Your Soul has some sort of alert that tells him the immediate moment Saratonin makes a post.
Also OP, I was hoping for a big bang at the end of the last history fact, like women stuffing hot stones up their womanhood to make sure they had boys.
