It's because the Emperor Tiberius before him took him under his wing to his island palace when he was a kid(after killing/banishing the rest of his family) and started him on all that orgy and power tripping stuff really young.

SARAtonin said: Day 23:
Final Exits: Rasputin:
That horrible Disney "Anastasia" really fucked up when it comes to Rasputin and as a result has given Rasputin a very unwarranted reputation based on pure fallacy. In the movie they portray him as a villain, but in real life he was most trusted advisor of Russians last Emperor, Nicholas II.

You see Rasputin was regarded as a healer and an elder, and when the Emperors only son, Alexei needed help with his hemophilia, the royal family asked Rasputin for help, thus starting their relationship. They Royal family say him as a "Man of God" and a prophet and as time went on he was always present during Nicholas's decision making.
This is all good and everything, but as I hope you all know, to be on the good side with the Royal Family at this time in Russia's history was difficulty not a good thing. This is evidenced by the February Revolution of 1917 in which the Royal Palace is stormed and the Romanov family are all executed.
Rasputin's involvement with the Romanov's led Khionia Guseva, a prostitute, to attack him suddenly as he was exiting a church on June 29th 1914. She plunged her knife into his abdomen causing his entrails to spill out, upon seeing this she exclaimed, "I have killed the Antichrist!" But Rasputin is a bad motherfucker and it's gotta take a lot more then that to bring him down.
How ever, on December 19th, 1916 a group of nobles launched an assassination plot against him deciding that his influence had become too great. They lured him into the basement of Prince Felix Yusupov's palace (a conspirator,) where they served him cakes and red wine laced with cyanide. After some time it had still had no effect so they gave him more to eat and drink, but as time went on it became clear that the only thing the cake and wine were doing was getting him drunk.
After 5 times the amount of poison needed to kill a man Rasputin stood unaffected so the conspirators decided to shoot him in back. Shooting him in the back twice, Yusupov joined his conspirators upstairs, then later went back down to check on the body. When he entered the room Rasputin suddenly lunged at him and whispered, "You bad boy," in his ear and escaped into the yard. The conspirators chased after him shooting him two more time before beating him with a rubber club, tying him up, then putting his body in a bag and then throwing him into the Neva River.
His body was later found freed from his bondage and showing indication he was attempting to break free from under a thick layer of ice. This means he must have managed to both untie himself and free himself from the bag after being poisoned with 5 times the lethal amount of cyanide, being shot four times, and beaten with clubs. Perhaps the dude really was what they said he was because an autopsy after his death showed that he had most difficulty been poisoned with five times what it should have taken to kill him.

Hi Sara. This is just a slight correction on the assassinations of the Romanov family. You said "this is evidenced by the February Revolution of 1917 in which the Royal Palace is stormed and the Romanov family were all executed." In the February Revolution the Romanovs did flee in exile. However, Lenin himself was still in exile. The first revolution produced a power sharing situation between relative Liberals such as Karensky and worker controlled soviet bodies. This arrangement did not prove effective and a power vacuum was still there waiting to be filled. Lenin returned from Sweden and staged the Bolshevek Revolution in October 1917. He was able to track down and arrange the murders of the Romanovs in the summer of 1818. The stuff about what it took to murder Rasputin was wild. I remember my lecturer had the whole class laughing for 5 minutes.

Keep up the good work.

Read a ridiculous story about ww2 pilots yesterday
A german pilot intercepted a fucked up b17 and ended up escorting the american pilot to safety.
"I either spiraled or spun and came out of the spin just above the ground. My only conscience memory was of dodging trees but I had nightmares for years and years about dodging buildings and then trees. I think the Germans thought that we had spun in and crashed.
I saw his gunner lying in the back profusely bleeding….. so, I couldn't shoot. I tried to get him to land in Germany and he didn't react at all. So, I figured, well, turn him to Sweden, because his airplane was so shot up; I never saw anything flying so shot up.
When Franz tried to get me to surrender, my mind just wouldn't accept that. It wasn't chivalry, it wasn't bravery, it was probably stupidity. My mind just didn't function in a clear manner. So his choice then was to kill us or try to get us to go to Sweden, since we wouldn't land"
Whole story is here http://jalopnik.com/5971023/why-a-german-pilot-escorted-an-american-bomber-to-safety-during-world-war-ii
franz didn't just "keep off attackers", which implies that he might have kept other german fighters off of them if they had stumbled upon the B-17/
the B-17 was headed towards the coast, where there were overlapping layers of antiaircraft batteries, and at 1000 ft, the bomber would have been shredded.
franz didn't just fly with them, he flew wingtip to wingtip with the B-17, in formation. the germans had resuscitated several B-17s (for training) and with an obviously german fighter flying with it, the gunners on the ground didn't fire on it.

On this day in 1941 the British Parliament debated sending aid to Russia to help fight the Germans and Italians who were attacking with great success up and down the Eastern Front, pushing Stalin's forces to the breaking point.
