I've read before that Rasputin was banging the Empress, as well as numerous other women of Russian nobility, while serving the royal family. Also, he apparently had a 13" dick, which was stolen and preserved after he died, and revered by a group of Russian women in Paris as a holy relic.

Reminds me of a great song from Type O Negative (and one of my favorites from their Dead Again album), wherein the video for which, the late great Peter Steele plays the role of Rasputin (or at least a character akin to Rasputin).

That sounds ridiculous.

Rasputin was a dumbass and is a major reason why the Romonovs fell. Taking serious advice about geopolitics from a fucking yokel  If they would have killed him 5 years earlier who the hell knows what Russia would look like today.

Read a ridiculous story about ww2 pilots yesterday

A german pilot intercepted a fucked up b17 and ended up escorting the american pilot to safety.

"I either spiraled or spun and came out of the spin just above the ground. My only conscience memory was of dodging trees but I had nightmares for years and years about dodging buildings and then trees. I think the Germans thought that we had spun in and crashed.

I saw his gunner lying in the back profusely bleeding….. so, I couldn't shoot. I tried to get him to land in Germany and he didn't react at all. So, I figured, well, turn him to Sweden, because his airplane was so shot up; I never saw anything flying so shot up.

When Franz tried to get me to surrender, my mind just wouldn't accept that. It wasn't chivalry, it wasn't bravery, it was probably stupidity. My mind just didn't function in a clear manner. So his choice then was to kill us or try to get us to go to Sweden, since we wouldn't land"

Whole story is here http://jalopnik.com/5971023/why-a-german-pilot-escorted-an-american-bomber-to-safety-during-world-war-ii

Care to substantiate why he was necessarily dumber than the imbred isolationist 'nobility'? History demonstrates clearly the intelligence of the ruling class, which isn't to say they're any dumber than the unwashed masses but lols if you think they were smarter.

Nicholas was just so fucked up. He was scared of what happened to his grandfather Alexander 2 (who I believe was legitimately a good guy). I cant remember the direct quote you can probably google it if you care, but he said something like "My grandfather freed the serfs and what did it get him?(assassinated)" then he adds something about being a iron fisted leader but im not even going to try and paraphrase that.

The thing was he wasn't surrounded by idiots like pop culture would lead you to believe, he was just so power hungry he would axe anyone before they could gain too much influence. There was actually a minister that was modernizing the country after they nicholas fucked up hardcore and got dicked by Japan (lol) he was building railroads and modernizing then nicholas got jealous and axed him. Enter fucking crazy ass giant mystic that no one knows a thing about, and start having him kick it with homies wife performing shit that would seem like satanic rituals to early 20th century russian and you get a shit load of trouble.

You get the rumors about him fucking your wife, being a demon, being jew...etc. Paired with a Iron fisted autocrat that frequently states how his kingdom was given by god, and even your nobility starts questioning why the fuck are we following this dumbass. Then they get their asses handed to them in yet another war (nicholas is on the frontlines while his bitch and crazy mystic dude run the country) and you can see where were going.

Nicholas had to be one of the most inept leaders of all time. (if you cant tell i fucking adore the shit out of russian history ) I mean i think Lenin was a good guy too, and that the Soviet experiment had noble roots and was a respectable attempt, but you gotta wonder the fucking powerhouse imperial russia would have become. Its not like im saying putins russia isn't impressive but they basically lost 50 years to a failed experiment. Imagine if their economy was actually allowed to develop and diversify on top of all the resources they have.

The thing about russians is they are survivors, Dont fuck with the bear!

I guess I share your interpretation of events, was only really questioning the way you referred to Rasputin but he's a monk and that already earns my contempt.

Day 24:

Bad Dudes: Caligula

Caligula, meaning "little boots" is known by many to be one of the worst, if not, the worse Roman Emperor.
As far as deaths go, over 9000 (lol) deaths are attributed to Caligula, that's the second highest death toll of all Emperors,
he is surpassed only by Tiberius who ruled directly before him, with 9500 deaths.

Just like most, Caligula didn't start out bad, at a very young age he accompanied his father on a campaign in Germania.
He was dressed up in a miniature soldiers uniform and this greatly amused the guards, leading to his nickname Caligula or little solders boots.
His actual name was Gaius Julius Caesar Augustus Germanicus.

As he became emperor, he was the first Roman emperor to be loved by  "all the world, from the rising to the setting sun."
This was due to the popularity of his father, Germanicus, and because he was not Tiberius, who I just said had the highest death toll of any emperor.
His first acts were to destroy Tiberius's "treason paper" and allowing all that had been exiled to come back (much of his own family had been exiled.)
He also increased the wages of the military, helped citizens whos livelihood had been threatened by the Imperial tax system, and encouraged public reform.
Philo, a historian that lived at the time said that the first three months of Caligula's rule were complacently, "blissful."

But October of 37 CE Caligula became very ill, although recovered soon after, the illness effected his mind in a very strange way.
Soon after his illness he began to have those close to him as well as those he saw as a treat exacted and exiled, even going as far as to have his cousin and adopted son killed.
After this sickness he also began to conjure up delusions of divinity.

I decided to at this point make a fun little list of different things Caligula is infamous for.

  • He demanded that a statue of himself be erected in the Palace of Jerusalem to be worshiped.
  • He would fuck the wife's of his political enemies, many times senators, then brag about it to their faces.
  • Open up a brothel within the Imperial Palace of Rome.
  • Having four wives, one of witch as the most notorious prostitute of all Rome.
  • He would exhibit his wifes nude for hid friends, and force them to let him inspect their wifes and have their way with them if he liked them .
  • Ordering a military campaign in Gaul (France,) were the objective was to collect sea shells as "spoils of the conquered sea."
  • Dissolving peals in vinegar and drinking them.
  • Incestuous relationships with three of his sisters, as well as prostituting them out to other men.
  • Throwing an entire section of the crowed to the lions when there were no more criminals left to kill at a game and he became bored.
  • Appointed his horse Incitatus a priest, and planned to made it a consul.
  • Raped both a bride and groom at their wedding.
  • Deliberately caused starvation.
