Day 20:

Darth Vader Grotesque:

Before I started out with this fact, I need to go over something real quick, the difference between a gargoyle and a grotesque.
When most of us picture a gargoyle, we infusion something along the lines of this...

This in fact is a grotesque, a gargoyle always serves a practical purpose of being a drain spout for the church.
Where as a grotesque only serves a spiritual purpose of scaring off malicious entities from the church.

Now with that out of the way, we can continue.
In 1907 the United States was in need of a good Cathedral and it was decided no city would be better then Washington D.C, the result was the Washington National Cathedral.

This Neoclassical cathedral is the 6th largest in the world, and the 2nd largest in the United States.
It has also been the setting of many important historical events such as the funerals of Ronal Regan, Dwight Eisenhower, Gerald Ford.
Five other presidents also had their memorial services there aswell as Neil Armstrong and many others.

But now we are coming to the fun part, Darth Vader.
During the 1980's during the construction of the northwest tower they decided to do the 'merican thing and leave what the gargoyles and grotesques on the tower looked like up to a vote.
This resulted in the construction of a Darth Vader grotesque being sculpted my Patrick Plunkett after the Christopher Rader's drawing that won their place.

There are a lot of pretty cool ones if you wanna look into it.

His entire existence is unnecessary, every story told about him was told about other gods before his time in lands that Rome had taken over. A common pagan mythology was introduced to every newly roman country and in Israel the main character was called Jesus Christ because it fit the existing theology.

The earliest anything was written about him was at best eighty or ninety years after his supposed death and there is very little agreement about any of his life among the various gospels.

The only good reason I've heard for his existence being factual is that the authors would not have had to go through such great lengths to fabricate history in order to have Jesus born in Bethlem as fulfillment of Jewish prophecy if he were not real.

so, his name might not have even been Jesus? so? leave it to a bunch of theologians to miss the fact that because everything that's been said about "Jesus" has been manipulated and thus scrupling any attempt at any verifying of any such figure, immortalizing a vain idol in an attempt to distract people for whatever various reasons there could be.

but why would anyone do all that though, if there wasn't an overwhelming school of thought to seduce, already?

What? You completely missed the point.

If his name isn't Jesus and you can toss out the miracles and message over plagiarism, and nobody bothered to write anything about him while he was alive or even a generation later, and nobody even has any evidence of his disciples existence, there's nothing left. Why would it be necessary for there to have been a real jewish carpenter who suddenly appeared at 30, preached for two years and got crucified? Even the crucifixion was part of the death and rebirth godman mythology that was everywhere hundreds of years before it reached Israel, so that probably didn't really happen either.

The whole thing was likely fabricated, there is no reason to think that Mythras was based on a real person, nor is there any reason to think that Jesus was. People just take it as written that he was because Christianity is so ingrained our society. There is a growing segment of the scholarly world that now regards Jesus as entirely fictional, Elaine Pagels has written a good bit about it.

Anyway, enough derailing the thread. Look into the topic further if you want, or don't. Preconceived notions are a motherfucker.

i'm just saying you can't discount that there might have been a man whom "the Jesus figure" was based off of.

for all i care, if someone was a seditious and potential threat to Kingdom of Israel, in that time, that it was a fuckin' awesome thing to do because fuck everyone and material possessions, when they are they themselves seditious fucks.

shit probably happened all the time.

there is no discounting the fact that everything around the "Jesus mythology" is trite, in terms of realistically defining a figure in history, whom which might have defined a sectarian school of thought that was torn down and destroyed, and manipulated long before anyone could make use of any of the knowledge, and then have everything that was sacred about the knowledge (sacred as in the old time word to define "spiritually helpful" knowledge) be disregarded into history as a black hole.

not many people know about the sects before Christianity. you should read up on that.

I don't discount the idea completely, I just don't think it's likely. He could have very well been an amalgamation of real people too, Tacitus recorded ten or twelve different Jewish revolutionaries with the title Christos.

that's basically all i was getting at. seems you are more well informed on the subject then i am. i seriously wouldn't doubt if scholars and the hierarchy alike, in many different civilizations, had amalgamated different "free thinkers" (as i like to call 'em) into one super being to try and feed some respite to the people. you know... give them a calling... answer questions... so on and so on. useful then... now... not so much. not in the same way as we've been doing it for centuries now.

thanks for the articles, i will read them. you know, i was talking about the sect in ancient Rome. they probably were from the Gnostic school of thought, and they preached and confided in secret for many years, apparently, in Rome. they were executed and tortured for their crimes of conspiracy, of course. but some people got away. they ran and were exiled, to wonder the deserts. guess what came after that... the whole works... but hey, i dunno, for sure.

Day 21:

Final Exits: William the Conquer/ Matilda

Today will be a two for one, one being the death of William the Conquer and the other about how me met his wife Matilda.
Lets start out with his wife...

Matilda:

During the VAST majority of her husbands reign he was off in England, first conquering it, then after that maintaining peace and putting down rebellions.
This left Matilda, his queen alone back in Normandy (present day France) to rule over the kingdom.
This was completely unheard of at the time (11th century,) a woman ruling a kingdom, even in her husbands leave.
This without a doubt puts Matilda up there as on of histories great female leaders.

Although this is not the fun part as interesting as it may be, the fun part starts with how she became William's wife.
At all starts in 1049 as William currently the Duke of Normandy rode his horse furiously to the palace of Baldwin V, count of Flanders, in Bruges.
As he reached the palace he found the object of his rage as she was leaving the palace chapel: Matilda, the counts one daughter.
You see, she had refused his marriage proposal, haughtily declaring she would not lower herself as far as to accept a mere bastard.
William quickly dismounted and grabbed her hair, he then drug her to the ground by her hair and began to beat her mercilessly, rolling her around in the mud and destroying her rich gown.
Then without a word William got back on his horse and rode full speed back to Normandy.
A few days later she stunned all of Europe by announcing that she would marry no other then William.
I guess she was a masochist.

The Death of William the Conquer:

After successfully invading and conquering the english isles, William had to deal with rebellions across England he would many times deal with himself.
William suffered an injury from his saddle notch after a battle, as a result of this injury, William began to experience internal bleeding.
This internal bleeding eventually killed him, if you don't know anything about internal bleeding, you're basically just building up a giant blood blister type thing inside your body.
By the time of his death, the build up had not been popped, and as a result it kept building up.
Due to complications, it took a considerable amount of time for him to be buried, and by this point his body had swelled up to essentially an giant human blister.
As the body was being placed in the tomb it was found out that the body had become too big for the space.
After a some time, the men working to fit the body into the tomb decided to just give it a go and attempt to close the tomb.
Except as they closed the tomb, the giant body pimple burst causing William to explode all over the church and everyone working on the body.
It was said that the smell of the William explosion would not leave the church for months after.
